A Home Alone 2 cast member in their 80s has died, and a celeb in their 80s whose name starts with D-O has died. I can tell the Grim Reaper is trying hard to give us what we want, but these fuck ups are awful.

Watching DESERT FURY on Criterion. Jesus. These must be the sane censors who rubber stamped Miracle at Morgan’s Creek. I haven’t seen a couple this gay coded since Mrs. Danvers and Rebecca’s underwear.

Well this is an awful way to start the day. Godspeed, Glen.

Well, I’ll give Motor City this much: it found a new way to be a Tarantino ripofff. Tell the story with very little dialogue but a lot of on-the-nose needle drops. The end result is like Ben Wheatley and Alan Parker had an ugly baby.

Me: My car is leaking coolant. Please give me an estimate. AAA shop: That’ll be $4074.25 What I wanted to say: Hell no. Eat the corns out of my shit. What I will say: No thanks. Taking it to a friend I trust.

Tried for Sara Bareilles tix again today. Lowest price at Ticketmaster was $310. Called the box office about ADA tix, but they say they don’t take phone orders. Left the Taft theater a voicemail message, but I don’t feel terribly optimistic.

I kind of DID have this experience with Psycho. In the mid 90s in Dayton, Ohio, we got to screen a spotless archive print of the film - with Janet Leigh in attendance. Probably my favorite moviegoing experience of all.

If you could entirely erase your knowledge of a film and watch it as if for the first time, which would you choose that isn’t Psycho?

Len Garry of the Quarrymen, the team chest basis for the band that became the Beatles, has passed away. I was very lucky to meet him when I went to the UK. I’ll always remember him singing along with Beatles songs in Liverpool, enjoying his place in history. Farewell, Len. Nothing to get hung about.

Caballeros is wonderfully inventive and trippy. I wish it were better known. But c’mon - BatB is one of their crown jewels. Come ON. Don’t let the lame live action version taint this vote.

Today in the second round of the Walt Disney Animation Studios bracket, we just may have to part ways with a trio of lovable birds, because they’re facing off against a pretty tough customer. 1️⃣ Beauty and the Beast 2️⃣ The Three Caballeros 📊 Show results

quick someone award Jeffrey Epstein a Greatest Pedophile Ever medal and Trump will get so jealous he'll release the Epstein Files just to prove he deserves it more

I will not be participating in the 2016 trend. That was immediately after I lost a job I held for nearly 20 years, then moved to a job I ended up hating and lost three years later. Not to mention it was the rise of THAT MAN on the national political scene. Forgive me if I don’t wax nostalgic.

Defaming a murdered woman and shrugging off her death with a lie is about as evil as it gets and no journalist who gets within shouting distance of this vicious troll should let him have a moment's peace about it.

This is a much needed tonic after days of unrelentingly grim news.

When Rob Reiner was on his all-time epic run at the start of his career, he had an opportunity to read a script that was looking for a production partner, and he lost his mind for it. He decided Castle Rock had to have it, no matter what.

But folks, you simply cannot make that much timeless work without being the primary reason all that work is timeless. You cannot make six all-time classics in eight years without being truly great, regardless of whether you mark your trail with an inimitable style.

Directors that don’t have an obvious style tend to get the short straw in historical appreciations of the great filmmakers. If we don’t clearly see *them* in the finished film, we think they must not be the primary driver of the film’s quality. This hurt Sidney Lumet, and it hurt Rob Reiner.

My hot take is that Hamnet is good, not great but not horrible, and that extreme responses to it confuse me. Buckley’s work is undeniable in a way that makes hatred of the film illogical to me but I also think it misses some of what it reaches for. There are better films this year to argue about.

Netflix getting Warner Bros. is bad for art, but right-wing oligarchs not getting it is bad for fascism. The Ellisons already got Paramount and Fox-ified CBS, plus a big stake in TikTok USA and more. On balance, avoiding more Orban-style media consolidation is a good outcome. Such are the times.

Mark Kelly is a genuine American hero, as is his wife, and it should be completely clear to anyone who actually gives a shit about this country that Trump's attacks on him are fucking crazy. Anyone picking sides against him is wrong. Period.

Guys … the last movie specifically told us Bond would be back, even though Daniel Craig would not. This isn’t hard.

Willard Foxton@willardfoxton.bsky.social

James Bond’s death in No Time to Die is causing a nightmare for the next film. Writers are stuck because Bond “was blown to pieces.” Anthony Horowitz, author of three 007 novels, says: “You can't have him wake up in shower and saying it was all a dream." radaronline.com/p/james-bond...

Well, the evils of streaming finally caught up to me. Five years ago, I purchased Ric Burns PBS New York documentary from Amazon. I watched it repeatedly with no issues. Now, some genius changed the aspect ratio for episode 8 to 4:3, cutting off the image. Naturally, nothing can be done. 😔

The original 7 episodes were indeed in 4:3. After 9/11, an eighth episode specifically about the World Trade Center was added, and this was in 16:9. For years, the file I purchased was correct.

A guy in Michigan got a fluke preorder and put it up for sale on Facebook for $25. A nearby Swiftie bought it but didn't own a CD player, so she got one from Walmart, then realized you can't burn files to a computer this way so is just playing them in a Discord voice channel for thousands of people
