With all my heart and soul, my response is "So what?"

Chris Sommerfeldt@c-sommerfeldt.bsky.social

New: Mayor Zohran Mamdani and a group of his friends have been secretly using the NYPD Police Academy’s gymnasium in Queens to play pickup basketball — scrambling some operations at the facility. w/ @grahamrayman.bsky.social & Joe Anuta www.politico.com/news/2026/10...

Editor's note: a birth certificate does, in fact, make you an American. Unfortunately, so does institutional racism. Mickey Rooney's stunt double here can go fuck himself.

The Bulwark@thebulwark.com

Rally speaker: "Mike Rogers is an American. Abdul has a birth certificate. The birth certificate says he's a citizen of America. You know what? a birth certificate doesn't make you an American."

The older I get, the weepier I get at Ellen Greene's performance of "Suddenly Seymour." There's a look she gives Moranis while he's singing the first verse that is so real, so honest, and cuts through how cartoonish the film is, and it just destroys me.

First one I am 100% sure of is BLACKBEARD'S GHOST in a '73/'74 re-release. I am told I thought it was "hilarious," but all I remember is the poster.

Mark Thompson@markreckons.bsky.social

First film you saw at the cinema. The real first one, not the pretend one you tell people! Mine: The Empire Strikes Back, 1980, Wigan. We were near the front and I can still remember how massive the AT-ATs looked, looming over us out of the snow :) Film, year, where, and whatever stuck with you.

all of this has always been about getting back at the uppity women who wouldn’t fuck them

“Palantir cofounder and CEO Alex Karp states ‘AI will undermine the influence of highly educated, often female voters and give it to working class men. We have feminine energy running our cities and our courts,’ he complained.”

There is a sketch in episode one of the new series of ELLIE & NATASIA that made me weep from laughing. Perfect premise. Perfect execution. One might even say practically perfect in every way.

The main reason the KLARA AND THE SUN reviews make me sad is because, just based on the trailers, it feels like letting Jenna Ortega smile in something was this secret weapon no one's been using. What a shame.

Haven't heard it, but unsurprised. Any time I went to Pixar to do press, Lee Unkrich was one of the most personable dudes there. More than that, though, he always had a way of explaining things to people weren't animation savvy that impressed me. Good dude.

John Hatch@johnhatch.bsky.social

So @leeunkrich.bsky.social new audio commentary for The Shining on the Complete Kubrick set is excellent, everything you want in a commentary. Polished without being stilted, informative without just rattling off facts. The good stuff.

Saw THE DEVILS in 4DX tonight, and lemme tell ya, that was the most upsetting roller coaster ride of all time. I thought it was a little excessive to use real fire at the end, but still... what a rush! (There is not a 4DX version, but if there was, holy shit)

It should be profoundly criminal for one person to donate this much money to political campaigns. Ever, much less in one election cycle. We will remain broken until we clean up the money.

Has there ever been a more openly hostile contestant on TASKMASTER than this year's Richard Ayoade? I'm not mad about it. Dude makes me laugh non-stop. But he genuinely seems irritated by everything and everyone involved.

THE TALISMAN has always been one of my favorite books, since the weekend it was released. Instant love on my part. I've read it so many times. I read it to my sons when they were younger. That's like a year's worth of bedtimes. Reading the new one right now is terribly bittersweet.

I get why some people wouldn't like this version, but I ain't mad.

Drew McWeeny@drewmcweeny.com

I'm on the record as a big fan of the new Mike Flanagan version of CARRIE, and while I'm not going to spoil why or how it's different and new and its own things, I am going to say something I never, ever thought I'd say: I would really like a season two.

There was a point before Amazon swallowed 007 whole when the choices they were kicking around internally were so radical and different that it doesn't surprise me they never happened. I wish Barbara Broccoli had cast Bond before losing control of things. Would have been really interesting.

Fingers crossed, man. I think the world is ready for a fat 56 year old American Bond.

Keith Calder@keithcalder.com

Apparently there are four Jameses Bond screentesting, and the names of three of them leaked. According to math (or "maths" as James Bond would say), that means you still have a 25% chance of being James Bond! Congratulations!!

Josh O'Connor is both way too interesting to be stuck playing Bond and also I would be there in theaters to watch him weep gently after finding out the villain iced his paramour Tuppence Two-Tittys.

Every single time I see the I PLAY ROCKY trailer in theaters, people start laughing when they hear Ippolito's voice as Stallone. I was so skeptical, but this is an earnest, sweet, and genuinely absorbing movie, and Ippolito's performance is a magic trick.

Dark Horizons@darkhorizons.bsky.social

Second Trailer: “I Play Rocky” www.darkhorizons.com/second-trail...

I get it to an extent. He was Pacino in THE OFFER, a giant bag of unmitigated bullshit that posits "What if every great decision on THE GODFATHER was made by a guy who absolutely did not make those decisions?" This is the anti-OFFER. Everything that show did wrong, I PLAY ROCKY gets right.

David Evans@dalekdave.bsky.social

@gailsimone.bsky.social has created one of the most terrifying characters in #XMen lore. If you haven't met Sarah Gaunt yet you need to pick up Uncanny X-Men. And it would seem she's putting together her own little team of 'Hellions' to challenge our newly christened New Mutants.

It's a choice (a bad one) to tell readers this driver "passed too close to cyclists" when there's video evidence showing he drove his car into them, made contact and hurt someone. Fellow journalists: we can explore the nuances of punishment for drivers without obfuscating their dangerous behavior.
