We (and our politicians) were fed lie after lie about benefits of a stadium for our future… it’s all spin from a Govt that now see data centres as the next best thing to solve their woes

With the CEO from the Tasmanian Timber Products Association on the radio complaining that the stadium is lacking any timber in its construction, there goes the Premier’s promise of a squillion local jobs. More lies. This is what “value management” looks like. #nonewstadium #politas

A staggering amount of money, for nothing. How many paramedics could this employ? The stadium planning, tendering, assessment and procurement process has been a shameful failure of administration from the day “Red Cent” Rockliff signed the AFL agreement, in secret, in 2023. #nonewstadium #politas

abc.net.auFailed stadium bidder understood to get millions reimbursedA failed bidder in the tender to build Hobart's stadium is set to have its costs reimbursed by the Tasmanian government — up to an amount the ABC understands is in the millions.

Tasmania’s TT Line debt ($1.15 billion) now on a par with 2025 cost of proposed stadium ($1.13 billion). True cost of stadium will be $1.7 billion + interest. With foreshadowed credit rating decline, the Tas. train crash continues. Well past time to abandon the stadium. #politas #nonewstadium

MPDC has never built anything before. Now it’s negotiating in secret with one of Australia’s biggest building consortia, to build a unique project on strict timelines on a contaminated site with no social licence. What could possibly go wrong here? #nonewstadium #politas

abc.net.auHobart stadium facing 'cost pressures' as price tag remains unclearWith an updated price tag for Hobart's AFL stadium expected to be released by the end of the year, the Tasmanian premier has skirted around questions on whether he would limit Tasmania's contribution ...

So, the Tasmanian government team that negotiated the disastrous AFL agreement in 2023 are now going to negotiate a building contract. This time for a stadium. And this builder is already doing a stadium in Brisbane. What could possibly go wrong? #politas #nonewstadium

Obviously, the solution to this is to build another football stadium.

Hundreds of passionate Tasmanians attended the public meeting to protest against funding and staff cuts to TMAG. Quite a few Green and independent pollies there, but none from Labor. They care about dog racing and a footy stadium but not our precious arts, culture and heritage. Shame! #politas

This is the consequence of a buildup of guns in civilian hands. Despite the best endeavours of governments in 1996 to move away from a US gun culture, the Shooters Party and past governments in New South Wales are partly delivering up to us, whether we like it or not. #auspol #guncontrolaustralia

As predicted, more cuts in education. What we failed to predict was that the Minister would deny the cuts. $1.5 billion in cuts for a $1.5 billion stadium (+ $ 1/4 billion in interest): join the dots. And where is the ALP on this? #nonewstadium #politas

The Tas. Parlt. Public Acc’s C’tee has damned the govt. for misleading evidence it gave over Wilkinsons Point, to another C’tee in Dec 2020. The govt. failed to disclose a subsidy. The leader of the govt. deleg. in 2020, now Mac Pt. Chair, Kim Evans, has some explaining to do. #nonewstadium #politas

Tas. HIA complains today about a lack of “shovel-ready” land for new homes. Macquarie Point is shovel ready for homes for about 3000 people. And it will employ many people as the project is developed over the years. And it will cost 1/10 of the cost of a stadium. #nonewstadium #politas

How can abandoning a $2.5 billion spend (including interest) not help the Tas budget??

Josh Willie says “you could cancel the stadium and the budget problems would remain”. Tas always has budget problems. But cancelling the stadium would improved Tas’ budget problems enormously, and in turn stop the budget getting worse over the next 10 years. Join the dots. #nonewstadium #politas

Experts sounding alarm bells to Tas. Liberal government on massive projects in Tasmania with no social licence and backed by big corporate interests. And where the corporates behind AI data centres are sponsoring Tas AFL teams in a PR move. What could possibly go wrong? #nonewstadium #politas

This report is both astonishing and unsurprising. An argument for regulation and even a shutdown. We can’t have computer programs telling people how to commit mass shootings. It’s bad enough that some nation’s leaders are sponsoring terrorism in neighbouring countries and territories.

Trump’s banning of entire media outlines is part and parcel of what authoritarians do to a free press. Authoritarians simply do not like a free press — and the latest escalation from Trump is a dangerous moment for a functioning democracy.

Today’s Mercury suggests that without a stadium at MAC Point, Hobart - and Tasmania - are doomed. The truth is the exact opposite. My theory continues to be that the more problematic the stadium becomes, the more they (Mercury and gov’t) pump out these kind of articles. #nonewstadium #politas

This is appalling but confirms what many of us already suspected. The Tas Gov, (some) public servants and favoured industries decide what is going to happen, and then make sure it does. Reports and consultation are window-dressing. Evidence is irrelevant. #politas #auspol
