Aerith is an easy one but I got into a lot of RPGs that way, even Tellah, Crono's sorta generic 'dying just to buy time!!' sacrifice. I was hit harder by FF9 playing that fuckin' gorgeous piano 'Loss of Me' bit for Beatrix as if she didn't JUST help Odin blow up a city of monks I was chilling with.

Seeing the discourse around Metroid, I feel my personal opinion is unpopular-- While I respect the concept, exploration, revisiting old areas for new access, I don't click with the old game design - I detest the fake walls, and bombing every pixel in hopes of treasure or hidden exits as policy.

I also find it a bit dull wandering around, because I feel largely unthreatened. Wrapping up this too-long bunch of words; the NES Metroid is the raw form of these ideas, & was an absolute nightmare for me to try to play. It's on the short list of games I never finished despite youthful tenacity.

People who're familiar with it seem to underestimate how unapproachable the older titles can be. I can't even get my nephew to grasp Contra 3 or Chrono Trigger. I know he'd hate every second on Zebes. All that said, I personally would have fun mapping it out today, and understanding it better.

In NES and Super, boss fights feel very... tepid? With some exceptions (original mother brain), most of them slowly crawl around firing shit all over the place, and you keep blastin' until you win. like they didn't grasp yet how to engage with you, which was maybe not their primary focus in these.

I play too much Mega Man, so my inclination is to wrongly compare boss fights to action games from similar years. NES Ridley is drastically less interesting than every boss in MM 1/2. Yellow Devil is a nightmare, but it keeps you active. The GBA Metroids put much more thought into these battles.

It's very easy to get lost or confused about what to do next without good observational awareness; I simply wouldn't have had the capacity to map these games out or find my way as a kid - Even the SNES one was too repetitive-looking for me to understand, so their integrated active map was essential.

My desire to fully explore stuff to 100% completion was made semi-possible with that, but I was fully aware that there had to be some E-Tank or missiles in a wall or ceiling somewhere that I'd never be able to find on my own, short of power-bombing every room I go through and the thought annoyed me.

'It sounds extremely dismissive to everyone who is using generative AI...' Yes. Good.

I literally just peaked at the Scritchy Scratchy thread on the AP server and the mods are ripping someone apart for asking if gen AI is used in the AP world and other AP worlds they’re interested in playing. Jesus fucking christ something needs to change on that server.

In the opposite direction of jumbo snails, meet some of the micromollusks that you might need microscopes for! Snails like 'Angustopila psammion' (0.5mm in height) and 'Acmella nana' are so small that five of them could fit inside a grain of sand. That's 1/50th the size of a common garden snail.

Basement got flooded with this flash flood heatwave thunderstorm stuff. Gonna run some marathons to see if raising money for that damage is a realistic thing. But I got it all cleaned up at least...! Regardless, ff6 with ZSNES audio, starts now! twitch.tv/smight

Who was this mysterious vendor Atp I doubt it was their own art, though

Smight got me this at MAGFest 2020 (I didn't go that year, wanted him to have time alone with his friends!) We had only been together 6 months and it has a companion pin with an orange tabby that he still has. I had it on my wallet and lost it at some point this last weekend 😭 I'm devastated

Triton's Trumpet is an enormous sea snail that gets as big as two heckin' feet. They're one of the few creatures that, somehow, enjoy eating crown-of-thorns starfish, despite the venomous spines all over its upper body. This starfish can overpopulate, leading to Triton's Trumpet being protected.

The Giant African Land Snail is the largest on land, sometimes as big as 15 inches. The novelty of huge, cute snail made it popular for a pet. But unfortunately, it has become an invasive species as it can carry health risks to humans and plants. Alas, enormous snail.

The older ducks have been influenced by this honking lunatic to be terrified of everything. The ducklings don't care about that and are happy to see me; we raised them separately because these nimrods kept running them over and chasing them around. Her name is five-alarm chili.

I've always seen this as the same insensitive joke style that people were doing with the kappa emote alongside something dreadfully rude and unfunny, but with a side of transphobia

Sunday snail time: The candy cane snail has white shell with various spiraling stripes of colors. It lives in the Caribbean, hanging out in trees most of their lives.

🐌 The endangered Volcano Snail lives in the boiling hydrothermal vents as deep as 9500 feet. They don't mind the sulfur or COβ‚‚ (they eat it), or that the vents exceed 600Β°F Also known as the Scaly-foot Gastropod or the Ironborn, because their feet are covered in metal armor they grew themselves 🦾

Going to have a box art battle game eventually on my app as well; gonna filter out movie poster / asset flips sort of box art. Debating allowing sports but how can I deny this one

My currently untitled game ranker (combination of scrandle, Tee-KO and other concepts) needs a name and more work before i let it loose to the public! Throw em at me if ya got a good one. I just want something fun, fairly unique, SEO. Playing with it on stream!
