An @oaklandside.org journalist did their own survey for a few hours at 52nd and Shattuck after a cyclist was struck there and found the same thing.

Brent Toderian@brenttoderian.bsky.social

“Cyclists are often perceived as recklessly flaunting road laws. A new study challenges this perception. The study found only 5% of cyclists broke road rules while riding on bike infrastructure versus 66% of motorists who broke rules while driving.” Safe bike infrastructure fuels rule-following.

99% of authoritarians retreat shamefully from their ruinous wars of choice just before the enemy regime ultimately falls to a devastating direct strike on its leadership paired with military measures never used before

The Iranian regime could ultimately fall if a devastating direct strike on its leadership is paired with military measures never used before. Past operations already set a precedent for this kind of strike.

Ok but whether or not the statute of limitations has expired isn't really an opinion, it either did or it didn't. "Comey says" makes it sound like a suggestion instead of, like, the law.

NEW: James Comey’s 3rd criminal case alleges he authorized disclosure of classified info in 2016 about Yahoo adapting its spam filter to aid FBI surveillance requests. Comey says the 10-year statute of limitations expired on Oct. 5. w/ @joshgerstein.bsky.social www.politico.com/news/2026/10...

Go to a factory pub and talk about how much you made from shutting the local factory down, you're going to get punched in the teeth. The witnesses will all think you deserved it Brag about "AI" near people who know illustrators, translators or copywriters and you'll get the social media equivalent

Related: I’m still looking for leads and help on jobs, fellowships, and freelance contracts on drones, GIS, aid, disaster, OSINT, tech ethics, and journalism. I simply will not work for evil people and/or weapons manufacturers, which is also why I haven’t had paying work since Trump 2.0 began.

Drone tech has so many incredible applications for so many industries and if you want to make any sort of living you have to work for an illiterate Nazi pervert dweeb who collects erotic anime figurines.

If you look at what corps are doing and not just saying, "human in the loop" is more of a blame strategy than a real principle. The human is outnumbered by computer processes and overwhelmed by design. If we actually want to empower humans we need Less Computer

bianca wylie@biancawylie.com

one of the reasons behind lesscomputer.ca is that constantly saying human human human while concurrently pouring more computer everywhere isn’t it

This is directly parallel to how UX design thoughtthinkers are on LinkedIn crowing how Claude Design lets us "do strategy—not pixel pushing", meanwhile design's access to the rooms where strategy is being done has NEVER been more constrained. GenAI concentrates power in the manager class only!

Fred Hebert@ferd.ca

I keep seeing people mentioning how ai-generated code lets you spend more time thinking about what the app should do, but I think there’s a need to remember that there are large groups of engineers whose role hasn’t been redefined to include that level of control and trust.

Time is not the bottleneck. A worker's influence comes from the fact that their labor is necessary to achieve the business's needs. Any say in setting strategy comes only FROM that influence. Belief that our labor becoming *less* needed somehow converts into *more* influence is hopelessly naive.

What's striking to me are the rules of engagement and the methodology of action here, which more or less is predicated on burying liberal delusions about "debate" or the "marketplace of ideas". The rules were ultimately very simple: amplify your own message and suppress your opponent's.

Usually that combo -- young people whose education and energy are underutilized by the job market -- leads to political upheavals. Why not here?

Banning trans kids from sports is fucked up. And you better believe there are terrible people and parents who see "Fairness in youth sports" as a much bigger battlefield that will include girls who are too tall, black kids who are too fast, etc etc

Looking forward to the first show that uses a brief glimpse of a character's phone set to light mode to foreshadow that they can't be trusted

no joke I think a lot of people rush into the wrong marriage because they don't realize this. get a cute outfit, have a theme party. whenever. buy yourself flowers. etc. good parties don't have to be that expensive.

I am sincerely hoping that once you arrive at the objective you will know how you are supposed to interact with it

If you read this thread and think "x programming language is popular for rapid prototyping" or "a ui component library is great for a quick prototype" you've already assumed that software is the best material to satisfy a purpose. You're operating under design constraints.

Pavel reposted

Something I try to illustrate with these annoying threads is that design is not business, but business is a constraint on design. The responses "it can be an advantage to be faster" are not unexpected. It's the implication that they are *part of* design that is incorrect.

Steve Farrugia@fasterandworse.com

"quick prototyping" is a myth created by ai centrists
