I am currently boring myself writing about 1950s US and TV and queer activism thinking everyone knows all of this, then remembering no, they don’t, I have just been teaching and writing about this for over a decade of my life

Was kann das denn für Konsequenzen haben? Also der Betriebsrat hat vermutlich ne Meinung zum Chef, aber rechtlich gesehen beim Thema Wahlkampf is das vermutlich international schwierig, oder gilt das genauso?

Oh no what a loss. He always seemed like such a kind soul. RIP.

My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.

Today is Intersex Awareness Day. I am intersex – and did not find out until I was 26! Intersex people are also impacted by the decision in FWS, but this is much less talked about. Intersex people continue to be subjected to non-consensual medical interventions. Intersex rights are human rights.

Pretty much all the "what can you do with our AI product" ads are like this: "Normal people—you guys are idiots—you need our words machine to burp out three words to describe your daughter, right?"

I’m working on my book; writing about Vito Russo and his papers at the New York Public library. I wish I was back in the slightly-too-cold reading room, thinking about the queer lives that all ended too soon and the legacy they leave behind, and maybe that’s part of why I avoided this for so long.

I have an article appearing in the coming year that traces the origins of technological progressivism to Christian eschatological thought and its attendant racialization in 1218 England when badges in the shape of the Ten Commandments were imposed on Jews. Here’s the conclusion to my article.

Is this the justification/rationale for tech accelerationism??? If the “Antichrist’s arrival is a necessary precursor to the 2d Coming of Christ,” then “[s]hould we even be looking to delay the end of the world? Maybe we shld just accelerate, put the pedal to the floor &… get it all over with…” 1/

Remember when they sent Jared Kushner to „fix the Middle East“ by which he apparently meant „launder money“ and „pay warlords“ and then he was foiled by the Dutch, and I didn‘t know an LLM trained on Robert Harris and John le Carré is writing the current timeline

My overarching take on Nobody Wants This is that -aside from the overtired shiksa goddess trope they course corrected- while it’s nice to see healthy relationship dynamics on screen they also get boring quickly. Hence the messy Sasha/Morgan/Esther plot is more interesting than the main characters.

Like I also don’t need them to create more drama for Noah & Joanne, that’s largely why S2 added absolute nothing of value, but S3 rightfully shifted them to second tier. There’s more interesting stuff to tell about his life as a rabbi and how that and her conversion affects her for instance.

And I always wonder if Tim Simons and Justine Lupe’s chemistry is what got us here or if that was a long term plan but given they shuffled showrunners multiple times now, we might never know lol

Nothing triggers white men more than when women, particularly women of color are funnier than them and with the MAGA crowd the bar for that is… very low.

This is not said often or forcefully enough. They are viscous when we are funnier than them. they know how much their propaganda machine depends on manufacturing their faux wit.

We‘re not teaching enough religious history in American or English Studies degrees in Germany. It‘s a hunch, but I have taught at enough unis and gotten confused faces when it came to identifying Protestantism as the defining religion of the US. Last week nobody could tell me what WASP stands for.

I‘m sure intro lectures do cover some of this and not all of it sticks but there isn‘t a big focus on it in most programs I‘m aware of. The only reason I had more classes on this was the presence of my phd advisor and while it‘s normal that expertise hinges on individuals this is too important.

It‘s also a difference being able to say „oh yeah Puritans“ (without usually knowing what they actually believed in or where they came from) vs then also being able to identify evangelical ideology in current US politics.
