I just started reading Dear Blind Lady and it's great! I was just thinking about phrasing I use when on rare occasions I think someone really might need help: "are you good/have you got it? or do you need a hand/help?" I ask in this order because it positions people being capable as the default.

Coming on October 6th 2026 is my new nonfiction title DEAR BLIND LADY from @sasquatchbooks.bsky.social I’m so excited to share this snarky but helpful guide to how to be better humans to one another. Preorder anywhere you buy books, and check out snarkbat.com for more!

So I just finished final edits on an essay where the editor died mid project. The editor chose to roast my ex in her marginalia. I took the note. I roasted harder. Never fuck with disabled writers or their friends. Dammit I miss Alice.

So I spent most of the last 24 hours fighting with nondisableds on threads about disabled people’s access to emergency egress and emergency notification systems that actually work for us. It was a reminder that nondisabled naievete about actual disabled experiences is very very real.

I experienced a lot of people literally yelling at me that it couldn’t possibly be true that disabled students are left to fend for themselves in emergencies. Or trapped in rooms to be sitting ducks. But. Guess what I know because I talk to fellow disabled people?

Last week at the launch party I did a bit with my interpreter about the last time we worked together and we got asked some weird questions. Come to my book events and you too can see my hybrid of disability theory and comedy show.

I expressed - as a blind person - the wish that people who volunteer on the be my eyes app not talk about how “wholesome” their interactions with users are. About how the interaction made THEM feel. They are upset that I a blind person maybe don’t use the app because of violations of privacy.

They said “but I didn’t use their name.” I am choosing peace and not going back to that thread. But my point to them would be this: Just because they weren’t named doesn’t mean they’re not on social media and won’t find your post about how wholesome it was to help them. How it made their day.

It’s officially book day! Dear Blind Lady is OUT! 291 pages of as many questions as I could answer. I’m grateful to all my contributors, but most especially Alice Wong who wrote the section on how to work with PCA’s. Buy the book, come to an event, fight ableism.

Ok so here’s one NON DBL post for the day: My child is 16 months on Tuesday. And I’m not sure where she got epic comedic timing but today I said to my husband “while you were gone it was a lot.” And the little velociraptor cackled. And then says “yessss”

A week from today DEAR BLIND LADY will be out! This is your last week to preorder and get a shiny pin from Sasquatch press! Just send your receipt to Bailey at bluestarpress dot com. Also if you’re in Seattle you can join me next Tuesday night for a launch party with ASL interpretation & bingo!

Ok my favorite Wrong On the Internet moment is when people act utterly shocked that I, a Deafblind person, am using the internet. And then they get FURIOUS WITH ME for telling them I can be both Deafblind and post on social media. 🤣 It’s apparently NOT ALLOWED.

One of my favorite cases of someone being Wrong on the Internet was a very earnest, very confused vegan who was telling people how cruel honey is; and it eventually turned out they thought honey was made by putting bees in a centrifuge and spinning them around until they threw up.

Book launch party in Seattle! Come to the Rendezvous at the Main Bar at 7:30pm for a half disability theory lecture half comedy show. I’ll sign books. We’ll have drinks. There will be ableism bingo. I may or may not have swag. ASL interpreted by someone who can actually interpret my snark!

I just saw someone on another platform talk about rubella babies and how measles is bad but just wait until the antivaxxers experience that. Hi. I’m rubella baby. I reject being a warning label and would love it if we could just agree to vaccinate because DISEASES ARE BAD.

But seriously - why is it that we have to use my disabled body (and yes, in this case it would in fact be MINE we’re talking about) to emphasize HOW BAD IT IS to not vaxx. Do I agree that rubella sucks? YES But does that mean everybody can talk shit about my body experience? NO

As part of promo for DEAR BLIND LADY I *will* answer your questions about disability - weird ones, invasive ones, ones you absolutely shouldn’t ask but want to anyway. Just drop them in the contact form on snarkbat.com - I won’t even reveal your identity.
