Young ‘uns: this stuff happened once a week during Obama’s presidency. Dijon mustard. Moving a bust of Churchill. Inviting a rapper to the White House. Putting his feet up on his desk. They’d scream and cry for days about how effete and snobby and Black he was and how misinderstood they were.

I know there's a lot going on but I feel it should probably be more of an above-the-fold story that members of Congress released a thoroughly documented report directly accusing the president of the United States of being a serial rapist.

RFK talks about autistic and Arabic people the exact same way. He assumes they are not capable of ordinary or extraordinary achievements because of who they are. He considers them sub-human because they are not like him. This makes it plain that his is a white supremacist eugenicist project.

RFK: "There's five hundred million Arabs in the world. And yet they don't produce science. They don't win the Nobel Prize. They don't win the Fields Prize. They don't win the Wolf Prize. They don't produce literature."

thinking about stealing fire from the gods. a hot take

maybe try not calling a vote when people aren't excited to show up and vote for you?

The Tyee@thetyee.ca

"Even if everybody who voted Green had heeded Eby’s warnings on the campaign trail about vote-splitting and voted NDP instead, the Conservatives would still have won a majority government with a nine-seat margin." @macleodandrew.bsky.social writes. #BCPoli thetyee.ca/News/2026/10...

I like that he seems to walk the line here of being clinical and not demeaning about what those tests are for, but about Trump's bragging and egotistical misreading of what those tests are for.

The Bulwark@thebulwark.com

El-Sayed on Trump's cognitive tests: "I went to medical school...In my neurology unit, I would have to give that MoCA exam...The only people that you give a MoCA test to are people who you worry may have cognitive deficits. By definition, if you're taking one of those tests, something's wrong."

I missed the "it's not his fault he's stupid" part the first time, but I don't think he's using that as a slur. we shouldn't have a president who is cognitively impaired in the particular ways Trump is. I would be a poor fit because my brain gets dumb sometimes and a president has to be always on.

POTS comes with dynamic cognitive disabilities due to cerebral hypoperfusion (enough blood to the brain that I don't pass out, not enough to run optimally). sometimes I'm dumb and I can't remember my password or answer a question. sometimes I'm really smart.

I am not sure they even know about other faith leaders? except maybe the Archbishop of Canterbury, but she's a woman, so. . .

The AI bro obsession with the pope is really, truly fascinating and bonkers. They are hounding him for approval (as near as I can tell, they are not doing this with any other faith leaders) If not this pope, a pope. It’s inevitable, Mr. Pope, how many models are you running?

I'm going to try to do this cleanly. Today's right wing governments are networked to each other. Those networks are well-documented. You can read about them in books. Following the elections in one node of that network is good practice for understanding the U.S. node.

I just think Matt's wrong about this. We're at a point in our technological development where a ton of problems spill over national borders--if Flavio Bolsonaro burns down the Amazon, that will flood houses in Miami.

Adding to Chanda’s point here: this level of action and optimism can likely be attributed to the fact that Lula and the Workers’ Party are leftist and they believe that better things are possible.

if every vote counts, maybe it would be good for him to stop alienating groups of voters who could tip him into victory. maybe call him up and tell him that if you are so concerned about the margins.

Rusty Antel@rustyantel.bsky.social

Turek is running for Senate in Iowa, a conservative leaning Republican state. And it is a very close race. You have every right to criticize his position on this issue and in a perfect world I’d join you. But let’s put that aside and help him win this race. Turek is still better than his opponent

maybe you should stop attributing all the agency to voters, who only count in the aggregate, and none to the candidates who could, singlehandedly, simply not do the thing that turns off voters.

the other thing about anti-trans Dems is that this move tells me your attention and imagination are easily captured by conspiracists. it's like Pizzagate. somebody lied to you and you fucking fell for it. I would like someone with a tighter grip on reality to represent me.

Lula: "We had to overcome foreign interference through digital platforms, which we will have to regulate. A crime in the digital world must be treated the same as a crime in the real world. We cannot have monstrous companies earning millions... not paying taxes... wanting to steer elections."

The Bolsonarists didn't change their minds, they didn't suddenly stop believing that their man could do no wrong and that Lula was an existential threat to Brazil. They were simply outvoted by those who refused to risk a return to fascism, and decided not to sit this election out.

Bolsonaro had corrupt media on his side, Meta interference on his side, US propaganda operations, and his party's officials actively sabotaging public transport in Lula strongholds to prevent turnout. Yet he was still beaten by the power of voter turnout.

barefootwriter reposted

It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.

NEW on @zeteo.com — Venues are *pulling out* of hosting Vivek Ramaswamy for his bus tour across Ohio in the closing days of the election. “We’re getting calls that people don’t want him there,” a top Ohio Republican says. “It’s that damn ad.” From @andrewperez.bsky.social and @swin24.bsky.social:

we used to live in the towers above the downtown Vancouver Costco. sometimes I'd go just for a gallon of milk. it *was* amazing, actually.

Suddenly reminded of all the discourse around people calling it "dystopian" that Costco was building a location with 800 apartments above the store, as if it wouldn't be super convenient and awesome to live in them.

My cousin just lamented that he turned 40 and now has to be a “daily pill taker”. It’s one. One pill a day. His first prescription. Meanwhile, I have been taking an entire pharmacy’s worth since my 20s. He’s joking about pill organizers. For his one pill. I can’t even.
