I am so blown away by the incredible organizing that @soc4pal.bsky.social has done, not just to mobilize against the @ASAnews’s decision to pick Israel’s interests over member democracy, but to organize a whole rad alternate conference!! See so many of you Monday!

Academic Conference Fashion Report, Alt-ASA 2026 Edition, Day 1: The Report is back under unusual circumstances, with a boycott called by @soc4pal.bsky.social to protest ASA leadership’s violation of democratic process 1/

The @soc4pal.bsky.social alternate conference is everything that academia should be. It's rigorous yet warm, it's fully of energy. It's cross-generational. The sessions are vibrant and exciting. I'm so touched that folks organized this, and in awe because organizing a conference is a herculean task.

Close to 300 sociologists showed up to demand a democratic ASA! Members have a right to vote on resolutions that have followed our internal democratic process for inclusion in our ballot. Resolutions related to Palestine should be no exception! #BoycottASA

Join us for a rally for a democratic ASA tomorrow at 4:30 PM outside of the Hilton Midtown! #BoycottASA

Join us for a rally for a democratic ASA! We will have a disruption planned inside and outside of the ASA hotel. To avoid any protest policing, we will share the exact time and locations of the rally on August 6th RSVP for our rally here: tinyurl.com/ASARally2026 #BoycottASA

We couldn’t be more excited about this speaker! Join us for a talk with Darializa Avila Chevalier, Democratic Socialist and Democratic nominee for Congress, and Nicholas Occhiuto on 8/11. They will talk about socialism in NY and how sociology can shape our world. #BoycottASA

Can we count on your help? We want to make sure the leadership of ASA cannot deny its members their right to vote on future resolutions. We need 10% of our membership’s signatures to amend our current bylaws. Sign up for a canvassing shift in NYC here: #BoycottASA

Our colleagues and comrades in S4P continue to inspire! If you are in NYC on August 6th, consider joining the rally for a democratic ASA! Free Palestine!

Sociologists stand in solidarity for a democratic ASA and a free Palestine. Sign the boycott pledge, and look out for alternative sessions & organizing events outside of ASA for folks who will be in the NYC area. #BoycotttASA

@eidlin.bsky.social rocking S4P's pin and showing support for Palestine 🇵🇸 We will be sharing more pins at our alternative conference in August. Another great reason to #boycottASA😉 There are many ways to support, and we appreciate how sociologists are showing up in this moment!

Academic Conference Fashion Report, @cawls-acets.bsky.social 2026 Edition, Day 3: The conference wrapped with some great panels. Most notable for me was a two-part session on “The State of Canadian Labour” 1/

ASA is telling members to register asap for its conference & win free merch🙄 But more would register if ASA upheld democracy and let its members vote for S4P's resolution🇵🇸 Why did you decide to #BoycottASA? Did the free merch make you change your mind?

Enhance your professional life and ensure the ongoing strength of your professional association—join or renew your ASA membership today! Until 11:59 pm ET tonight, you’ll also be eligible for a free 2027 Annual Meeting registration or up to $50 of merch from the ASA Store. asanet.org/summer

Hundreds of sociologists are refusing to accept an undemocratic ASA. Join the boycott of ASA's annual conference and make the voices of our membership heard! #BoycottASA

Unfortunately, I will not be at the ASA meetings tto accept it. Instead, I will be respecting the @soc4pal.bsky.social boycott. The leadership has stifled democracy within the organization by suppressing member's voices on the ongoing genocide in Gaza. Democracy is power. We must rebuild it.

We are finally seeing ASA leadership recognize the ASA meeting boycott and its impacts, to the point where they're extending the deadline to June 15, and committing to an early council meeting to "work towards a resolution." Keep up the pressure! As we've been saying, boycotts work!

On May 27, join us for an interactive session, where attendees will have the opportunity to engage S4P organizers directly on issues including boycott logistics, tactics and strategy, and support of junior scholars. Let’s show ASA what democracy looks like! TINYURL.COM/5RTW5EKX

Are you upset about the actions of the ASA leadership? Do you want a more democratic ASA, but are unsure of what to do? Support S4P's call to boycott the ASA registration fees and hotel block this August!

To do so: 1. Don't resign! 2. Skip registration. 3. Work with your section to hold a remote or offsite session. 4. If you have to go, then: A. Don't stay in the ASA hotel block. B. Participate in protest inside the conference.
