Sofa 🛋️

Too much to say, too little room in the Bio box up top 🙂‍↕️ You can call me Sofa, Sofa Dragon, or Moss. Current staples of my life are being a Naturalist 🌳, Druid🌾, and Environmental Scientist in the makin' 🌱and eventually seeking a Masters in Paleontology or General Geology.

Most riveting thing I've seen all week

I need good ideas for my travel journal that will help me unplug from my phone... Any creative ways y'all got for taking a step away from the scrolling? 🙂‍↕️📵

My biggest ick? Unnecessary consumerism. The more I've done to avoid buying unnecessary the more eagregious people buying stupid shit feels. "But I want it to look good" you're buying glass jars for spells to look cutsie when you have 4 expires salsa jars in your fridge. Clean them out and use those

Being artistic/crafty and having niche interests really comes in handy. Can't find what I want out in the world? Make it myself I guess

I wondered what Google was going to do with that iNaturalist deal a while back....

I will never grow tired of watching these small guys just go about their day. Gave them a first offering of bee pollen and it was a hit! Definitely a fan favorite.

It may be surprising to some that there are thousands of undescribed species just sitting in museums awaiting description. One of the main reasons this problem exists is that taxonomy is undervalued and underfunded, a trend that coincides with the devaluing of studies on natural history.

Are the cast members secretly dating or are you just not used to genuinely close female friendships

Had the opportunity to go see the Selenite Salt Flats in Cherokee Oklahoma this week. It looks straight out of fiction. Getting to dig for hourglass selenite with the whole family was such a treat.

Saw a fragment of the mid Holocene fossil forest at Portreath yesterday, revealed by winter storms and low tide. Impressive piece of truck on organic-rich clay filled with sticks and seeds. Probably 4000-6000 years old. Drowned when sea level rose following the end of the last glaciation.

Neanderthals cared for their own. 🤝 Fossils like "Nandy" from Shanidar Cave (severe injuries, long-term survival) show incredible group compassion & altruism. Debunks the "brute" myth & highlights deep social bonds in ancient societies. #Paleoanthropology #Neanderthals #Empathy #SciComm
