Pinned post was out of date, so here's a new one. I'm actively looking for work, especially with review season in the thick of things. 16 years of experience covering games and pop culture, specializing in RPGs and interviews. I'd love to review games for you (even the big one), or anything else

Genuine question for anyone that works at or runs a smaller site. How hard are you planning on going for GTA 6 coverage? So much is gonna be pumped out by the big sites, I’m genuinely curious how much it’ll be worth it for everyone else

Y’know past times like Elden Ring and BG3 prove there’s enough to go around, typically. But typically is the key word there I think. The way Google and search is these days - I just don’t know

I knew November would be a slow month for work in the games space. But, uh, boy I’ve literally got almost nothing for the next month. And from what I’ve been seeing, I’m clearly not the only one

An Austin Wintory Mass Effect soundtrack. Good god we were robbed.

Austin Wintory@awintory.bsky.social

Mass Effect was my ultimate white whale, my all-time dream project. For the last couple years I'd been in discussion w/ BioWare & EA to take on the project & as part of that I wrote close to 20 minutes of music to explore where the franchise can go next, may as well share it!

I have largely not felt good about myself or my work this year. But boy being in four (four!) different issues of Game Informer this year has been a nice little morale boost

But I think this is indicative of the ongoing way people interact with games. Series aren’t things created by people - they’re objects and products. And so many people that play games simply do not care about the human cost behind these things

Putting it out to the universe that I'd love to consult on more games, in any capacity. By the end of this year, I *should* be in the credits of three games - and that should then continue next year. And I'm also developing a better eye for the dev side of things. A lot of knowledge I'd love to use.

a very rpg site interview on all fronts. niche questions, hardcore topics, and of course this sort of thing

Majora's Mask still is, and will probably always be, the best Zelda game by the way

Hayes Madsen@solfleet.bsky.social

Nintendo should do the exact same thing they did for Majora’s Mask on N64, and just use all the Ocarina of Time assets to make a Majora’s Mask remake - I’m not kidding

Yeah, early big thought for Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave - there’s way too much stuff in this game that’s not tactical battles. I just wanna battle man

Fun story I realized tonight - the first ever video game review I wrote for a site was Dragon Age 2. Feels remarkably bizarre to remember that right now. And while Slimgamer.com has long stopped existing, and it’s not on the way back machine, I found the N4G link (of all things)

As I’ve sat here the last few days thinking of BioWare, and now remembering this. Maybe the most surreal feeling I’ve ever had in my life, looking at where Im at, and where that studio is at

I like that Fortune’s Weave does its Arachnophobia mode by using the sci-fi character creator and a characters just like - oh hey, you got a bug problem by the way?

Hard to parse my thoughts for this honestly. But to me, BioWare represented making things happening despite so many forces working against it. And that was represented in the stories the creators there told as well - representing people who, so often, have the world working against them

Really vibing with this summary of DualShocker’s 10/10 review for Final Fantasy Resonance. Sometimes you play a jRPG so good you just sit there in the glow of your monitor and go “Hayes Madsen.” And really, what else do you even need to say.

I feel like when you're unemployed and life sucks, it should be required that one thing, just one thing, goes right for you. We're getting the house repainted and fixing the siding, and the company we're working with has been a fucking nightmare to deal with.

I have not played a Call of Duty game since Black Ops 3, but I am wholly unsurprised hearing that the jingoist machismo has only gotten worse in recent games

it's been a decade since I played a COD campaign and out of interest I decided to give MW4 a go and... I'm not sure what to say. US devs got away with a certain amount of myopic jingoism in the 2000's, but the evil "othering" in this game is out of this fucking world. I've been appalled for 2 hours.

Ever video game company racing to be the fucking worst right now. Jesus

Cale Michael@xjustified.bsky.social

This shit just writes itself at this point. Just the name "Epic AI MegaJam" is a joke that best describes what is going on with these companies.

I have never been more excited for a Lego set. I will pay any amount, upfront, right now

I can't believe I live in a reality where I can at least partially blame fucking Jared Kushner for the closure of BioWare. I hate it here so much man.

Informal poll. My partner is interested in trying Soulslikes after talking to a friend. She’s never played one, but seen my play a few. What should be the first one -Elden Ring -Lies of P

As much as it's not really a surprise, especially given the industry right now coupled with the Saudi sale, the news today still made me sad. BioWare joins other great studios of the past, with a legacy that will not soon be forgotten. 😔 www.forbes.com/sites/paulta...
