A mod on /r/opensource has declared #AI is “incongruent” with #opensource software, and also… banned non-English speakers who use translation tools?! Meanwhile Linus is AI-pilled and letting his agents rip on the #Linux kernel for 23x perf gains lol www.reddit.com/r/opensource...

20 years old, this must be peak millennial optimism down to the 140p youtu.be/qC128euLMwM?...
Holy shit I'm tired of companies shipping shitty "features" just so they can squeeze money out of me. I can't *manually* deploy something on @vercel.com if the commit was authored by someone who doesn't have an account on the project team?

We are now about half way to the threshold at Inference.coop where I'll have to give up my benevolent dictatorship. Want to join the ethical-ish AI train and help unseat me from power?

I can’t remember the last time I was this psyched for a browser version bump. It’s pretty slick!
Life sometimes happens to be out of sync. Zen isn't. Whether you are at home or on a trip, with our newest addition of improvements we have introduced a complete synchronisation of your Spaces across multiple devices. → zen-browser.app/release-note...
One on the board for #agentic codebase rewrites: shopify.engineering/back-to-native I’m convinced we’re about to see a wave of total codebase rewrites to make them AI-native or AI-first.
This'll never play on main street. The killer robots need cool nicknames, sunglasses, and skateboards! www.reuters.com/world/china/...
Calling it now, local inference is going to be the thing that tips everyone towards local-first software writ large: www.perplexity.ai/hub/products...
Cue the "we need to regulate open-weight" pearl clutching. "the costs of some advanced AI tasks such as coding fell by as much as 56% while the quality of the AI’s performance fell just 2%, Austin said." archive.is/2026.08.21-0...
My operating assumption is that the skill sets are just going to shift toward architecture and system design, but maybe that’s too optimistic. www.thenewatlantis.com/publications...
Finally got around to this, so good! So fascinating how the actual devs on the ground at Twitter were well-intentioned and grappling with some of the fundamental dynamics of profit-driven economics. Love @blaine.bsky.social's reframe of decentralized tech to cooperation and collaboration.
Twitter could have been built very differently. @blaine.bsky.social, one of the earliest architects of Twitter, built a version inside the company that worked like Mastodon or @bsky.app today. Even their lead investor backed it. So what happened? Listen to the full story, ep out now. Link below.

"It’s a sharecropping system, but the sharecroppers are generally happy because their interest lies in self-expression or socializing, not in making money." What an astute observation of the current state of the digital world, written... 20 years ago. www.roughtype.com?p=634
Big ups to @zen-browser.app for being Gecko and not Chromium-based (and also nice to use).
Periodic reminder that Chrome is bad software. It's a personal data collector cosplaying as a web browser. Use other browsers, my personal recommendations are Safari (if you're on a Mac) and Vivaldi (works anywhere). Orion is worth a look too (no Windows version yet).
