A Penn workshop sparked a cross-department coffee cart. A Utah gathering launched a trainee program. Seattle is now piloting a Libraries model. That’s what ENGAGE does. Real projects. Real impact. solvingfor.org #MakeScienceBetter
Solving for Science is all about gathering people to make science better. Whether it’s gathering people for public engagement or community activities, getting scientists together is better than talking over a Zoom. Find out more about our upcoming workshops & scientist-led pilots. solvingfor.org
Working scientists know better than anyone how to Make Science Better. They have plenty of ideas of what to fix and how, but not enough time, support, or funding to do it. Solving For Science helps turn those ideas into real projects. By scientists. For scientists. solvingfor.org
yes please!
🚨 Cool new project alert 🚨 WE- you, me, everyone- need to work together to get important science messages out to people. 4 artists & 3 scientists collab'd on these posters. We hope YOU will put them out in your community. Each poster comes w/info about each topic. Get 'em Squidfacts.bigcartel.com
Well, we're going to need to change THAT. How about instead of breaking the ice with 'How about the weather?' trying 'How about the insanely accurate weather report that years of modeling by federal meteorologists at NOAA made possible today that saved lives?' I'm sure you can think of more...
Most Americans frequently use federal science information. But few are concerned that cuts to federal science spending could affect their access to such information, a new poll finds.
Call out the GOOD more than the bad. Commit to companies that commit to including all Americans. Show shareholders inclusion isn't either-or but win-win.
🔥 BREAKING: Bristol Myers Squibb shareholders voted today to reject two anti-DEI proposals. One of the proposals called on BMS to "Cease DEI Efforts," and was rejected by shareholder vote 97-2 percent (1% abstained). BMS Board supports "our culture of inclusion" and "all decisions are merit-based."

What's happening with these grants is much more complicated and mostly unknown. None of the NIH have been officially cancelled. The NIH was just ordered to stop paying. They got the Unis to enforce silence on their own campuses because they thought they were "negotiating" and cld get the funds back.

No need to reinvent the wheel--jump on the bandwagon!
If you’re concerned about the impact of the proposed budget on Federal funding of science but aren’t sure what to say when you call your elected officials, remember that a coalition of professional societies representing nearly 100,000 scientists signed an open letter about this a few weeks ago. 🧪
Defiant Joy counts as ACTION. When it's all too much, take a science dance break, in the super-extra style of Eurovision! 😍(congratulations to winners of DanceMyPhD, Dr. Sulo Roukka of U of Helsinki and his sparkly team!) youtu.be/qOa6GJ6_les?...

Our scientific talent and innovation is the envy of the world. Use it or lose it, America! Respect>Neglect!
Europe’s choice is clear. To put science at the heart of its economy. To become the home of scientific freedom and collaboration. And to welcome talent from all over the world. I’m glad to present the first elements of our Choose Europe Initiative. → europa.eu/!TTbWbJ
A heads up -- with potential action steps. Slow-walking NIH grants is intentional. And if you don't spend your NIH grant by end of US fiscal year 9/30/25, a plan seems afoot to force a vote to impound those funds. 🧵

Amplifying this. NIH money not used by end of summer is gone. I've had a new R01 pending for months now, the award is prepared (according to ERA commons), what steps are left before the NOGA and funds released? Feel like many grants are being slow rolled before they are then not funded.
talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/the-w... Not nearly enough coverage of this possibility by traditional media.
#ScienceMayDays: Day 2 more of what to do: Support courage in statements like the one from Research!America's CEO Mary Woolley, and check out (and use) their great fact-sheets and infographics to use YOUR voice in speaking up too (or making more signs!): www.researchamerica.org/fact-sheets-...
#ScienceMayDays: What to do? Support Courage and plaintiffs in lawsuits that push back. On April 2, APHA and other researchers and union filed a lawsuit challenging the abrupt, reckless, and apparently politically-driven cancellation of research grants at NIH. Read the complaint here:

It's Fustilarian Friday, so today NSF is announcing that they, too, are slashing overhead rates to 15%. www.nsf.gov/policies/doc...

This budget is laced with racist, anti-science, petty, and cruel language that should be beneath the president. If enacted, it would leave communities at the mercy of devastating climate impacts and deprived of public protections that save lives and support the economy. www.ucs.org/about/news/c...

RFK Jr. ordered the NIH’s Integrated Research Facility in Frederick to stop all research on serious infectious diseases yesterday at 5:00 PM. They study pathogens like Ebola there. You may be familiar with it from The Hot Zone. www.wired.com/story/hhs-ni...

We're supporting National PROPEL in extending grants to institutions who want to set up a support system for post bacc students working toward a PhD program. Our first grant is going to University of Washington soon! Find out more at propelscholars.org
It will be critical in the coming months and years to support junior scholars impacted by politically-motivated cuts to science funding. One potential pathway for philanthropic funders (after the lawsuits are resolved) is to prioritize funding cancelled NSF postdoctoral fellowships & CAREER grants.

Let's keep talking about it! People WANT medical research to continue. If you think you've said it enough, say it again. If you think people already know what's happening, they don't. If you think this is over, it's not. Keep talking!
A huge majority of Americans (77%) oppose the cuts to medical research that the current administration has made. (Source: Wash. Post/ABC/Ipsos poll)
