codifying tone policing in this manner is inexcusable and has no defensible excuse like the nsfw policy does, which can be tied back to “but the law says...” the larger a community or platform grows the more important it is to make sure your rules have concrete metrics for conduct it applies to.

I am sure that the community has seen the rphub guidelines update. I also finally received the original wording of the comment that earned my account a strike. 🧍‍♂️ once again irritated this was framed as a personal insult The ticket has also been closed again, but not locked at least.

have no clear differentiation from the entire rest of the post. They were picked out because they hurt somebody’s feelings, but that somebody projected onto me in the first place. That is not my fucking problem and neither is it the moderator’s. tl;dr: we should maybe care more abt this one.

I just. Idk dog. Even if you fix the content rules I don’t know if I can in good conscience endorse that my friends use a website where the moderation could choose to smite them at complete random and it’s codified into the tos.

the thing about that "what would get u banned from rp//hub" post going around is that it can literally be anything. people will decide they dont like u and will find any and all reasons to report all of ur content, just like any other website

You have biases. It came free with your being a person. When interpreting comments like mine, your biases and values are projected onto the text, and more often than not you’re going to target people you don’t like, which is an unsafe and discriminatory way to run a website.

You CAN moderate things like hate speech, calls to violence, known dogwhistles, threats, and direct comments! If I named names, sure! If I said “these people should hurt themselves”, sure! Those are moderation worthy comments! However, as it stands, the isolated comments made >

There’s ZERO indication of where “no insults” starts and stops. There’s absolutely no metric to avoid tripping this rule. I don’t think my post had any insults at all actually. No one I know thinks it was insulting, either.

Which means every single person I know would’ve violated ToS with no way to avoid it. None. If your ToS CANNOT be followed even if a user tries, because it contains value judgments, it fucking sucks and it WILL be openly discriminatory. You WILL project your biases on users. This is unavoidable.

And were clearly in service of the larger point. Picking out two random sentences from a pretty neutral and measured comment and striking them on the basis of “insults” is (excuse my language) fucking obscene. No website I’ve EVER used does this. None.

Why? Because it’s too subjective. An “insult” is something that someone could feel hurt by, but there is no objective definition. If your rule cannot have clearly delineated limits, it sucks. Point blank. Don’t fucking do that. This works for small groups but not websites!

really great that the nsfw rules are being evaluated by people with experience but I think if the policy of “we can strike you at complete random for super vague negativity btw” is maintained this still. Yknow. makes the space explicitly unsafe for marginalized users.
