I treat the internet like a museum or any other public facility that one can visit. I wish more people did too, because the online hand-wringing over the most basic things that can be encountered in day to day life can feel a bit over the top.

Societally, I just think we’re past the point of entertaining the idea that the internet can be a 100% moderated personalized experience that exists for comfort and escape. It’s real life too. The sooner we come to terms with that, the sooner we can regain perspective and compassion on other things.

I know this is a more controversial topic, and it’s hard to get into all of how I feel with this thread. But I also believe in personal responsibility in what spaces you enter. The biggest social media platforms are inherently mature spaces, and I think some people don’t internalize that fact.

There are people with legitimate phobias and trauma, I am one of them, but there comes a point where so much vitriol can get thrown at a stranger just living their life. There is often reactivity and no introspection and a large part of the internet just accepts that as an appropriate response.

It takes time to heal and process, but attacking others for being ok with things that are morally neutral is not how to heal. If you wouldn’t go up to a bug exhibit at a museum and tell the employee that you want to set it on fire, why on earth do you think it’s ok to do that online?

Sometimes you will experience things that make you uncomfortable but that discomfort does not equal harm. Scars, insects, disabled bodies and exposed breasts are parts of life. You cannot expect strangers to bend over backwards to create a totally safe environment based on your personal hangups.

I believe in tagging extreme things, or at least having a description of what any image contains. But some people act like they’ve been shot because they saw a cartoon nipple, and I’m just very tired of how far we have backslid in terms of what constitutes as “harmful.”

It’s always so funny to see fanart of a character that is drawn with rippling muscles and a huge bulge and when you go to see how they appear in canon, they look like this:

Candlelight vigil today at 6 to mark one month of closed doors at The Academy of Natural Sciences. Wear all black. I’ll bring candles. We’re keeping the pressure up until there is a concrete plan to reopen this museum. This is also a great time to pick up posters to distribute!

I rounded up 13 bone-chilling Indigenous horror reads that’ll crawl under your skin and into your dreams. Stephen Graham Jones is back with Off the Reservation, Never Whistle at Night returns for blood, and writers from Alaska to Aotearoa are bringing the scares. redpopnews.com/13-bone-chil...

For most of modern horror's history, though, we showed up as the curse instead of the storytellers. Think of the Overlook Hote...

But I think this is indicative of the ongoing way people interact with games. Series aren’t things created by people - they’re objects and products. And so many people that play games simply do not care about the human cost behind these things

I think artists and sex workers should have a natural allyship. Both of us are often told we should not be allowed to charge for our work if it is at all pleasurable. Both of us are wanted for what we can do, but our work is considered not worth paying for. We should stick together

Very well researched on a lot of things (other things need a bit of suspension of disbelief ofc) I enjoyed the ending more in the movie than I did in the book, which is very rare for me with movies. Go see it, if you can…stomach it.

Spoilers Additional thoughts: -It was a weirdly satisfying detail that when the squid died, it changed color, like real squid do when you dispatch them. -The sound design throughout the whole thing was phenomenal! -Loved all of the garibaldis in the beginning!

Lots of neat little details and cool lighting provided by dinoflagellates and other bioluminescent critters. I think some of the changes made really helped with the flow, since you don’t get Jay’s inner voice as much, like in the book.

Slight spoilers I cried at the scene I knew I was going to cry in. I think the orca scene was my favorite. The blood trailing in the water was so beautiful. I liked the attention to color at different depths too!

Oh, it was really good! It’s a bizarre film that fully commits to itself. I think it does a great job of adapting the original novel. It was stomach-churning, in every sense of the word. Visceral, even.

I am reading ‘The Nerd Reich’, a book about technofascism, and it really is fascinating. As observed about Elon; they seem to have no ‘culture’ in terms of art etc. They don’t seem to really love anything, or talk about bright or beautiful or funny things, ever, in terms of their values.

Another stunning defeat for a Trump-aligned right-wing leader in Europe. Serbian students voted out their authoritarian leadership after months of protests against corruption, taking their fight from the streets to the ballot box and turning people power into political power.
