Nerd. Neurotic. Retired public defender. That zombie never even got near me so no I'm not showing you my arm. It's brains. I mean fine. It's fine. I'm perfectly brains, okay?
I think we should encourage Republicans to eat three meals a day at Cheesecake Factory every day between now and Election Day.
I think it would solve a lot of problems.
BTW, I think if you watch the video (I know, it's like sticking an awl in your ear), I think there's a racist subtext in the former slumlord's comments here. No surprise, I'm just saying I think that's what he's signaling here.
I wish this guy never got out of Queens.
Trump is BIG MAD about Obama saying the White House now looks like Saddam opened a Cheesecake Factory: "He's not a smart guy. He's not smart at all ... for you to say it's a Cheesecake Factory, that just shows why you were a lousy president"
The difference between the Trump White House and a Cheesecake Factory is if I somehow had a choice between going to one or the other, I'd pick the latter.
Besides, Obama didn't say it was a Cheesecake Factory, he said it looks like if Saddam Hussein opened a Cheesecake Factory. Which is true.

BTW, we were at that point in our technological development at least a hundred years ago, if not longer, yeah? German elections in 1932 and 1933 had a pretty profound effect on non-Germans, just f'r'instance.
I just think Matt's wrong about this. We're at a point in our technological development where a ton of problems spill over national borders--if Flavio Bolsonaro burns down the Amazon, that will flood houses in Miami.
My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.
‘Roy Cohn liked to insist he’d never had a childhood. He’d had to help his less brilliant father, a judge on the New York Supreme Court, with his cases; “before I was ten I had a dramatic impact on his thinking.”’

This sounds pretty freaking familiar.
I think a lot of folks who attribute the news media's soft handling of Trump to agreement with his agenda overlook the equally (more?) plausible explanation that a ridiculous Trump quote will generate clicks, pageviews, engagement.
I should probably shut up already about Cheesecake Factory Discourse, but the one(?) last(??) thought I'll add is that it only has culture war salience because of the sad death of middlebrow culture.
And Cheesecake Factory is a kind of culinary exemplar, a place that offers a kind of cartoonishly decadent, Art Nouveau-esque atmosphere in a kind of ironic and accessible way, which I think most people understand, yet The Discourse is framed as whether you're being snobby for admitting you get it.
It's fancy and expensive enough to feel special, affordable and gauche enough to be accessible, good enough to feel you're getting your money's worth, pricey enough to feel like you're giving yourself and your family a treat.
Very middlebrow (complimentary).

We used to have magazines like the Saturday Evening Post and television like Playhouse 90 that was smart without pretension and aimed at a sweet spot between ages, classes, genders, whatever, and it was understood it might not be High Art but it wasn't Pulp, either.
And of course this ties directly into right-wing "concerns" about education, media, etc.: it's ultimately an anxiety about alienation when even their own children don't share their values.
The thing to remember, though, is their alienation is voluntary. It's entirely self-imposed.
That's a good thing! Growing up is the process of separating from your parents and becoming your own, unique person. But so much of MAGA parenting is about rejecting that and wanting little robot copies.
WELKER: Is a vote for you a vote for the Trump agenda?
MIKE ROGERS: Um, I'm apologizing. I'm having some difficultly in my earpiece. But is a vote for you? I'm not sure. I'll tell you what a vote for me is. It's a great day for the state of Michigan
It's honestly a really weird cultural signifier because it's a quite-expensive restaurant that is also self-consciously populist and tacky bsky.app/profile/lesh...
It's funny how people both pro and anti this joke have clearly never been inside a Cheesecake Factory and don't know the interiors look like if you ordered the Palace of Versailles from Temu.
If it weren't for NATO, Putin wouldn't be a eugenicist obsessed with restoring Russia to its Stalinist-era geopolitical apex (with domestic policies to match). Damn us all, look what we made him do.
Eventually, it was decided to proceed woth the work required to deal with the One Ring Problem unofficially, as the need was pressing.
It was noted wryly by all, however, that on successful completion it was reported as "magnificent work by the Council of Elrond" in internal comms.
This line I saw someone say reminded me of a whole load of thoughts I have about Space Marines and gender, so I'm gonna use it to go on a tangent.
Space Marines, and 40k in general, are in a weird place thematically.
I know they'll spin it as "vindictive Democrats going on witch hunts," but if they weren't breaking so many laws all the time they wouldn't have to worry, and I've got to think they know that.
I think they have contempt for the laws they know they're breaking, is the thing.
Scoop: White House lawyers are weighing preemptive mass pardons for junior staff, sources says
Under discussion: Pardoning everyone involved in deportation, war, or trade policy

I don't think they think they're doing legal stuff they might be harassed for--at least the smarter and more self-aware ones don't. I think they think they're doing things they ought to be allowed to do and laws against are just an inconvenience.
Which is all the more reason they belong in jail.
I think my ability to distinguish between "I am feeling weirdly anxious and low today" and "I am just a person having a totally normal reaction to being alive during the 2020s" might have completely vanished.
We acknowledge that no one has the bandwidth for this, but if it helps:
-It’s ‘sleight of hand’
-It’s ‘bated breath’
-It’s ‘lo and behold’
-It's 'buck naked'
-It’s ‘brass tacks’
-It’s ‘free rein’
-It’s ‘toe the line'

We have a culture that conflated cruelty with "practicality" and "realism" long before Trump entered politics or even before he became a primetime reality TV star.
"Willing to make tough choices" (i.e. indulging in performative cruelty) was part of the GOP brand by the '80s, copied to some degree by centrist Dems in the '90s.
I discovered I needed glasses when I failed an eye test while taking driver's ed when I was, I guess I must have been, 15.
After I got the eyeglasses, it became obvious how much I'd simply not noticed most of the world being out of focus most of the time.
