i build wine from source for macos in order to use a wine 11.19 feature (better opengl support) and it was really awful. the existing packaged versions of wine only go up to 11.18...

i dont know if theres some secret evil awaiting me because im using an arm toolchain but the wine binary seems to be working on the same game i cared about. im not sure how deterministic or diffable clang is… cuz i could compare

it is funny to me how much slower configure is than the actual compilation.. if only things were not stuck on 40 year old build systems

its ~8 minutes from nothing and ~5 minutes on a rebuild but im pretty naively just running configure/make or whatever toolchain again, im not sure what/how much is cached. my inclination is to just nuke everything on a rebuild, only avoid downloading the source archives again

soon enough i think all will be resolved since wine will have to be an ARM thing so the build toolchain wont be weird but it was like 3-4 hours of building an x86 toolchain from source for macports

ok i have drastically improved the situation (it will now be probably less than 30 minutes total?)

my next idea is participatory art where the audience takes your password and steals your identity online and such. is anyone doing this yet

i wish i could make 1 million dollars from video games, but i do want them all to be free, so,

i also prefer this to rating games, which is maybe a habit i should get out of... i don't like rating games <5 stars, but i don't mind it when people rate my games whatever they may, i appreciate the rating regardless

it is sort of strange to me how 2d collision tutorials in games, when talking about more accurate things like sweep tests, always assume you want to depenetrate. feel like every game i make has a collision where i want no physics to happen but state to update. like collecting coints

the best year for video games will be 2027 because i will be making a game and other secret reasons too

this is not to say my game will be the best. it will just be fun to make is all

meetup dot com is one of the worst, most egregious sites i have ever had the displeasure of using. Please if you are organizing an event, use anything else

Hi, everyone! Excited to announce that I’m launching I Don’t Remember When I Started Killing Bugs Again: Game of the Year Edition on itch! This serves both as an actual physical page for Bugs as well as a way for you to support me, if you so choose :) tomorrow-today.itch.io/i-dont-remem...

tomorrow-today.itch.ioI Don't Remember When I Started Killing Bugs Again: Game of the Year Edition by sage tomorrow, todaya single player journaling rpg WITH UPDATED GRAPHICS AND NEW MECHANICS

it's hard for me to think of 9 games that shaped me because i feel like every third game is still shaping me but I will try soon

Installed bazzite last night because lightdm decided to stop working completely randomly and I had been sitting on an installer USB anyhow, so no more arch. Anyways it went pretty smooth besides my browser font being this for a little while

I'll miss the ease of installing software in Arch, but 2 major AUR attacks in the last few months have made me wary. I avoided one of them only because I hadn't updated my computer in a while!

Playing my landmark precision and secrets platformer in my head and it’s good. Mainly because it expands outwards.

It’s like the Void Stranger of platformers (Disclaimer: I haven’t played very much Void Stranger. This is based on how people talk about it, with hushed tones and a light in their eyes)

ever since i was a child i wanted to make esoteric video game secrets (pictured: notebook at 8yo)

broke: playtesting your game woke: not playtesting your game bespoke: playtesting your game in your dream

caught and released a centipede today and was thinking about this

this is my game, I Don’t Remember When I Started Killing Bugs Again. to play, you log it every time you kill an insect. this is also available as a web app @transwron.gs made with me. people tell me it changed their behavior- they think twice about hurting insects when they remember the rules.

maybe catching a bug is also a sort of violence (i am establishing space as my own) but there is more of a relationship (i need to have the bug come onto a flat surface, understanding its behavior, and then place the cup over it ever so briefly, and release it outdoors)

i think bugs probably don't want to be indoors where they might lack many of their basic needs so i think the guided return to the outdoors might be a kindness? ie wandering indoors might be a death trap anyhow

i grew up doing this and at some point i stopped interacting with bugs as much? or maybe grew more apathetic... im not sure. but the instinct to just hit the bug today rose up... where did i learn it? and with it a sense of Wrongness, that it was not me

to get more specific about this, you certainly can run into pathologically slow situations in Godot, and it's frustrating when it happens. But it is an approachable problem, thanks to the engine being open and profile-able, vs. what happens with lots of other software

For me, Godot is a program that works the way programs used to work. You click something and it does it. It doesn't sit around thinking about whether it might have something better to do. It doesn't ask you for anything. It doesn't make you also open Visual Studio. You can use it on one monitor

You won't often run into this sort of problem though. In many cases, Godot feels either like a good proving ground for a game, or enough to get the whole game working.

its funny that “no magic numbers” is a suggested rule of programming because, the numbers, they are all magic

Im having a big problem where i want to change my discord profile picture because its like a random zelda stock image i chose a decade ago but also i am really attached to the abstract presentation of the profile picture. when i switch it i get devastated and forget who i am

working on death/restart animations in a game is funny because im in this loop of immediately dying and now that i'm finished i'm like oh i actually have to play the game...
