made a new game a witch has cast you into a cursed cave. escape with the help of subterranean critters jack-turps.itch.io/love-me-not #pico8 #gamedev have fun ((:

been playing this almost every day since it came out. early on i would fight to climb the leaderboard (and try to beat the dev’s time) but now i’m having fun doing just one blind playthrough each day and seeing how i rank

bsky.app/profile/ella... liz ryerson phrases a similar thought in a more nuanced way here

the point about "Candy Box sans the sense of humor" describes so many idle games in general to me - a genre that started out at least somewhat more satirical about the goofy meaninglessness of so many game genre tropes falling into semi-predatory addictive design techniques and second screen fodder

felt like rngdle's ultralimited poetry composer was the only actually interesting part of the whole thing, so i spun it off into my own daily web "game". everyone gets the same 30-40 words each day to compose a prose poem with fridge magnet poetry tiles. fridgle.net #gamedev

"The guests are outside so you have to cook really fast" - new game for gmtk jam! action cooking game where you have to keep track of all the timers you have going! soulware.itch.io/tgao #gmtk

one thing i really appreciate in puzzle games is a logical solving process. when it becomes guessing at constraints it becomes tedious

sokoban style puzzles or any puzzle games where you manipulate a character tend to have more logical solves than arbitrary grid filling puzzles. there are exceptions in both directions, but sokoban is easier to reason about a next move

and it’s not that the next move should be so constrained as to be obvious, but it’s nice when a puzzle facilitates solving with logic rather than bruteforce hypothesis testing

pushed up a small update to this game so that it saves your progress. also added a couple puzzles that should help clarify some rules better. give it a shot if you haven't played yet!

i made a short gardening puzzle game where you need to help an eccentric farmer remember the rules of the game play it now in your browser: soulware.itch.io/puzzlingardens (it should work on mobile devices as well!) #godotwildjam

this game is entirely playable on pen-and-paper, looks like puzzlescript, but was actually made in godot
