it also matches the context/app you're typing into. Like if I say "Add an init pie file to the dee bee directory" in VS Code or claude code it'll type "add a `__init__.py` and to the `db/` directory." backticks and all. It's also the only dictation tool I've used that can handle my spanglish lol

remember que meta was doubling down on the metaverse wasting a ton of money and then they realized ai was a thing and they stole a bunch of data and misused their own users data but released the llms as open source so everyone was like 🤔👀 anyways

Manning is the only publication I've bought books from that does the one thing I've always wanted from any publication: give me the ebook if I'm buying the print version. all i want is to give the author some money for their work and be able to read the book however i want.

for most technical books I want a physical copy but what I probably *need* is an e-version so I look for it and inevitably end up finding the PDF for free somewhere and 8 times out of 10 I probably actually didn't need that book i was just curious so i end up not buying it and with the free pdf

i just wish it was standard to provide the ebook if you buy a physical version of the book. i'm not going to buy the book twice just so i can have it at home and on the go.

The csv mod has a sniffer, just used it like this: >>> with open('cc1.csv', 'r') as f: ... sniffer = csv.Sniffer() ... sniffer.has_header(f.read(2048)) ... False >>> with open('cc2.csv', 'r') as f: ... sniffer = csv.Sniffer() ... sniffer.has_header(f.read(2048)) ... True #python

@simonwillison.net when using `llm` - is there a way to pass tools to the model? I'm going through the docs and I can't find it but I feel like I read a weeknotes or blog post about it ?🤔 or am I *hallucinating* *badum tss

so anyways, any monitor recommendations?? i just need something large enough to comfortably work and for the image quality to not suck. i'm not watching or editing videos / movies but i really appreciate good image quality.

i realize that i don't actually need a laptop and i'm thinking about getting the new mac mini. i've never bought a monitor before (just had laptops lol) and i didn't realize they're this expensive. how am i gonna pay 3x what i pay for the computer *just* for the screen to use the computer ?? lol

We're interviewing people and today I had to start the meeting with "Apologies but I just got a tsunami alert a few minutes ago so if I drop off in the middle of this call is probably that"

it's Spotify wrapped day but I've been scraping my recently played tracks every hour for over a year now so every day is Spotify wrapped lol

last night i learned how to use cloudflare's workers to protect a github pages site with github oauth on my phone just going back and forth with chatgpt + simon willison's post + a cloudflare's blog with some use case code snippets all while watching Moonknight on my ipad in bed

ngl neither Moonknight nor the code got my best lol but now I have a working piece of code for exactly what i wanna do and more or less a sense of what i need to do so i can pick it up quickly when im back home after the holidays

ill write a blog post about it and maybe about why i wanna do that ? i just wanna publish dbt docs for free to only some people is it the best way to do it? who knows. but it works and it's free and pretty easy tbh. i also need to rewatch Moonknight.

I don't know how to categorize it but this is exactly the type of thing i wanna build i just need to find a way to make the same amount of money i make rn but have like 20-30 extra hours a week 😂

New plugin for sqlite-utils that lets you ask questions of a SQLite database (or a even against one or more CSV/TSV/JSON files) in human language and have an LLM write a SQL query for you to get the answer. simonwillison.net/2024/Nov/25/...
