I work remote, so most of my communication with co-workers is via email or Slack. It's extremely off-putting when you notice they've outsourced all their writing to Claude (and you do notice, immediately).

Can I recommend you an anime? It's Frieren. It's so endearing and beautifully composed. It's not shounen, but isn't without action and adventure in a soulful story about human relations, time and reflection.

This is a significant worsening of our current state of constitutional collapse. I know it feels like there are so many, and there are, but in terms of crossing the Rubicon moments this one's up there.

Anthropic in particular amongst AI vendors, truly smacks of a cult.

Mike Masnick@masnick.com

Over a year ago I met an Anthropic employee at a conference and at one point she mentioned that one of the things she was working on was whether or not it was cruel to ever turn off an AI model. I thought she was joking. She was not.

I hadn't really noticed Discord's age verification roll out because they just assumed my adulthood. Which, fine I guess. If they'd needed proof, I could've just presented Winamp skins I made nearly 30 years ago... as I crumble into dust.

Getting so many "No on 40" (the CA wealth tax) mailers. "The money might not go to exactly what you think it will!" Oh right, sweet, the money will GO to something! I was on board just for the "taxing billionaires" aspect. "You're NEXT!" Lol, blatantly false.

The "decomp" claim aside (it's probably wrong), I tried the Illustrator knock-off, because I hate Adobe but haven't found a suitable replacement yet. It was kind of impressive in what it can do, but definitely not up to snuff for replacing the genuine article either.

Holy shit. Someone has decompiled the Adobe suite, rebuilt it in Rust and released it as open source. Either all software is dead or the US copyright laws are about to receive an update. getartcraft.com/apps

It also bugs me to no end, that the Photoshop knock-off icon doesn't have the same corner rounding as the others. I mean what business do you have marketing to artists/designers if you're not going to go ballistic about corner rounding?

I feel awkward posting my stuff to sub reddits I'm not very active in, even if it's completely relevant and is well-received. Meanwhile AI guys like seagulls dropping their turds in every sub they can fly by.

Me this morning: "the summer ant problem is perhaps finally winding down, huzzah!" Me this evening: "...there is an entirely NEW type of ant all over my sink." (new to my house, in any case)

Amazed that the new ants are bothering me even more. The usual guys will latch onto bait traps, then form an orderly procession to and from the bait. The new guys are taking the bait, but also brought a second unit whose task is to just sprint wildly around the counter top to no practical end.

My neighbor gave us some home grown pomegranates, which I've never had before. Tasty! But this may be the most effortful fruit I've encountered so far.

Lol... I abandoned the FB page for my site when they killed an API that allowed me to make posts w/o registering that private connection as a public "app" or some such nonsense. Two posts with links per month, lmao.

This post is unavailable.

Should print this out on a wall placard: "I do not like this moment in time where nobody cares how things work."

Technology Connections@techconnectify.bsky.social

"Explain how that happens" is a legitimate request! And critique! I am happy to explain all sorts of ways LLMs could hurt humanity, but all of those explanation involve careless people doing careless things. Not rogue software. I do not like this moment in time where nobody cares how things work.

There are very real safety concerns we need to address with generative LLMs. Deepfakes, privacy, AI psychosis, etc We don't need to entertain goofy nonsense from people claiming they're inventing the torment nexus from the science fiction classic "Dipshit That's Not The Torment Nexus Go Outside."

I feel like I'm on borrowed time with social media sites. Eventually they'll all have to require privacy-invasive age verification, and I'm just inclined to opt out at that point...

In case you wanted about 3,700 words on the problems with today's "settlement" that gives Meta way more power over how the internet works than it should have.

I dunno fella, I think the folks who've stuck to a particular music player for ~30 years probably aren't just waiting to jump ship to the thing you made overnight.

Anyhoo, couple of Winamp skin thoughts in mind, but I like to vary my work, so probably finish up some ponies next. I assume my followers consist of MLP fans who put up with the Winamp thing, and Winamp fans who put up with the MLP thing. ๐Ÿ‘

I never appreciate the amount of work that Winamp Modern skins actually take until I'm knee-deep in it with a giant Illustrator artboard of UI elements, a many-layered Clip file of raster assets, and a bucket of XML and MAKI scripts. And then I do a silly thing like add ~20 color themes.

I also updated my Winamp skin site a bit, including an About section with advice on where to get Winamp today (hint: it's not from winamp dot com), and a Resources section which doesn't have much so far, but I'd like to add some of my skinning tools and tutorials, and links to other helpful stuff.

American health care is being in notable pain, but assuming you really oughta be tucked into your death bed before seeking any medical attention.

New pony is old pony; that art is ... okay, though I don't love what they did with Fluttershy's bangs. Theme song sounds like generic junk. New VAs sound nice tho. 9-minute Youtube episodes is discouraging.

I definitely wouldn't choose a return to office working, but I do miss people-watching downtown during SDCC. Sights like adult-sized Batman walking down the street holding hands with a toddler-sized Iron Man. And Deadpools. Deadpools everywhere.

I'm still salty about Mega Raichu (it's debuting in Go today); OG Raichu is one of my faves, and neither Mega is an appealing design, imo. Both are trying to be Pikachu in different ways. I hate the big arbitrary bolt things on Y's head.

Open up an email in Gmail and it has pre-populated an entire AI reply, the first line of which is apologizing on my behalf for having not read the previous email with enough attention to detail. .... wtf

So what's this Amazing Digital Circus thing? Is it good? The fandom seems a bit toxic, but let's watch the pilot and see if it clicks .... (binges the whole thing)

Finished Mina at 99% completeness... I enjoyed figuring things out to find secrets, but left a few things in the last area as the platforming and enemies were just too obnoxious to wander around as much there.

Upon first encounter with Klumpy in the field, "AHHH" (runs immediately backward to the previous screen). Later encounters: "Dude Klumpy, knock it off, I have to go explore this Lantern Cavern..."
