New from me: Five years ago, I criticized a San Francisco TV reporter for getting her facts wrong. Ever since, she and her allies have alleged that I was part of a conspiracy to end her career. That narrative just got a boost with her new book, which is being promoted by some powerful tech people.

"California is pledging to put 7.5 million acres under tribal stewardship in the state’s first-ever tribal stewardship policy." Absolutely *phenomenal* news & essential. We need this, across Turtle Island, fast. We don't time. But WOW. What an amazing thing to see in my lifetime.

This collection, borrowed from my dad's shelf and reread many times over, was formative for me as a tween. You know the Twilight Zone ep about the creepy kid with godlike powers? The Star Trek one with the Gorn? I first encountered those stories here.

I'm seeing a lot of people calling this performative, and honestly, I think that's giving it way too much credit. What audience could this possibly be meant for?

Here is a video of a frozen creek that had begun to thaw, and the water was flowing beneath the thin ice on top. I took this because it was soothing and wonderfully bloopy and I wanted to listen to it for hours. You are all welcome to enjoy it, too. Let your brain settle here and rest for a moment.

I've been seeing a smokescreen of AI-hallucinated faces and AI-hallucinated names for this guy all day, so it's nice to have an actual news org out there doing the actual research.

I’m at the spot where ICE murdered Renee Nicolle Good today, along with my daughter and her bf. Still lots of people here at 11:00 pm. (Avoiding getting anyone in the picture) It’s beautiful, surreal but still mostly enraging. Abolish ICE.

I've never lived outside California, but I've visited/stayed with friends and family in a lot of places. Green states have airports where I've stopped long enough for a meal, blue states have scenery I've enjoyed from a moving train.

This articulates my exact feelings about San Francisco, the tech industry, & the entire social crisis of Capitalism we are all facing. Ms. Solnit writes with fierce precision & grace, connecting the dots with damning evidence rather than hyperbole. Essential reading. www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v4...

Very disappointed by Pluribus. Two episodes in and there has only been one bus, and it was only on screen for a few seconds.

Seeing Dr. Strangelove for the first time as a kid in the (packed) Castro Theatre and laughing so hard that my sides actually hurt. Many years later, also in the Castro, seeing Lawrence of Arabia for the first time, in 70mm. What an absolute trip. Movie did not feel its length.

Another one: seeing The Sixth Sense on opening night. The whole theater was really into it, shrieking at the spooky jumpscares and gasping in disbelief at the big twist, which nobody had had spoiled for them because this was four years before social media existed.

Oh! Donnie Darko at the Shattuck Theater with a group of college friends. Afterwards we went to the Baja Fresh across the street for late night quesadillas and sat in there for an hour arguing over what in the hell we'd just watched. (The later director's cut would have spoiled all that.)

When I was a sophomore in college I got roped into a Rocky Horror midnight showing with a group of strangers in a strange city (St Louis) over winter break. Had never seen the movie, was not forewarned about the audience participation aspect. What an amazing gift that was.
