Salvete omnes! Haven't been posting much. Too much politics on here lately, which is understandable, but draining. Studies in Latin are taking up most of my time. I wish you all the best today! ☺️ Omnes vivere beata volunt, sed saepe ad pervidendum vitam efficat caligant.

“That to expect bad people not to injure others is crazy. It's to ask the impossible. And to let them behave like that to other people but expect them to exempt you is arrogant - - the act of a tyrant.” - Marcus Aurelius

Learning Latin has really reminded me that the Romans were quite brutal at times. "Corpus miserī rēgis in viā iacābat et Rōmānī caput in urbem portābant" 😬 The body of the miserable king was lying in the road and the Romans were carrying the head into the city

Salvete et bonum mane! Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Canadians! 😊🦃🥧 There's always something to be thankful for. Sometimes you just have to look a little harder than usual.

As relevant today as it was 2000 years ago. "When a government becomes powerful it is destructive, extravagant and violent; it is an usurer which takes bread from innocent mouths and deprives honorable men of their substance, for votes with which to perpetuate itself." - Cicero

There is so much to be angry at and I just don't have it in me anymore to carry that anger. Be kind in this world. If not for what it does for others, than be kind for what it does for you. I wish you all a lovely weekend! 😊

Rough week. Two of my wife's friends died just days apart. 😔 Appreciate the people around you. They may not be always be there.

It's been a busy September! Since starting introductory Latin, I have come to realize how poorly I retained knowledge of my English grammar from middle school. Latīnum linguam nōn bene sciō, sed scīre volō.

Good morning everyone and happy Sunday! It's been humbling to return to the university I worked at for so many years, only now as a student. So many bright minds and me, the dim bulb covered in cobwebs, straining to illuminate the darkness of my own mind. 🙂 Memento te esse hominem.

Welcome to all the new people following me! You have really hit the Jackpot if old white guys spouting philosophy quotes and occasional Latin are your thing. Well done! Salvete amici novi!

Ugh, I narrowly avoided two accidents yesterday while driving. Only one of which was conceivably my fault. 😖 I really don't have the temperament for city driving anymore.

It's hard to stay engaged with a world that feels like it has lost its mind. Today however my new hat arrives and surely this is the harbinger for a new era of global sanity. If not, than at least it will keep the rain off my head.

Cardinals, gibbons and wolves sing duets with siblings and packmates to bond, mark territory and stay in sync, while helping young animals learn complex sounds through imitation.

Good morning all! September is my favorite 'mensis falso nominatus' and I start Latin next week. I look forward to being the Grandpa in the class. It won't be weird at all.. 😐😬

The worst part about living through this dystopian chaotic era is that it has become extremely difficult to give a crap about living a mundane ordinary life. This is what I tell myself when I look at my unmowed lawn. 😐

Everyday I discover "easy" things that are hard and "hard" things that are easy and I am reminded that these are labels. The world is as we find it, what we do with that is our choice. "Sometimes it is the people no one imagines anything of who do the things that no one can imagine." - Alan Turing

I have used Linux for 30 years, and to this day I have yet to have suspend work correctly on any laptop I have installed. After all this time I still wind up having to put workarounds in place. 🫩

In 2017, Ísafjörður, Iceland, installed a three-dimensional optical illusion crosswalk. The stripes appear like suspended blocks and aim to attract drivers’ attention, encouraging them to slow down near the pedestrian crossing.

I don't fear AI. I fear the people who are pushing AI and misleading us all about what it is and what it can do. “A sword never kills anybody; it is a tool in the killer's hand.” - Seneca

From now on whenever I participate in an online survey and they ask me why I chose a number on a scaled response. My answer will be 'I chose randomly' Stick that in your analysis!
