I'm tempted to open commissions but I don't know if anyone would take me up on it... last time I did that, nobody responded 😅 So quick question, if I opened commissions, would anyone here be down to/in a position to take a slot? #art #commission #transformers #artshare #artsky

The story behind the absolutely manic and insane Battlefield Earth is utterly, UTTERLY MAD! A complete shambles which almost everyone on the cast and crew knew was a disaster, pushed by a ridiculously egotistical Travolta who was seemingly the only one on the project who actually believed in it --

Name a bad film who's production you find fascinating

produced by a guy who only got the film funding because it was packaged with other movies the studio actually wanted to see. Even the cinematographer said it had no budget for LIGHTING, having the worst light set up he'd ever seen on a set. That's not even getting into the Scientology stuff...

Today we celebrate the life of our beloved Walter Koenig. Part of the Trek family since the beginning, he brought light and life to the screen, giving us many wonderful memories. I never met him but I've never heard a bad word spoken about him. You will be remembered. 🥃🖖🏻

Unbelievable loss. An amazing talent, and just a really, really good person. www.instagram.com/p/De8RFy4pyov/

I ask that same question of anything shat out by an Ai. What right does anyone have to sell their GenAi slop for money, when they didn't actually do anything? This isn't a matter of opinion, objectively speaking you are NOT an artist if all you did was tell a software to do all the work for you.

I have developed pretty solid relationships with the folks who've commissioned art for me. I doubt any of them would consider anything I said as any kind of insult. Some of those commissioners were artists themselves who wished to see my execution for their ideas, and that's cool too.

But those artists created their own work in different circumstances. They drew stuff their own way, but decided to help out a fellow artist, commission something from me, and every time they've been happy with what I did. There's a huge different between that, and a liar using LLM-based GenAi crap.

I've worked on commission lots of times, usually for someone who themselves wanted to see art of their character but couldn't draw. They'd tell me what they wanted, I'd send a sketch, and they'd ask for amendments, which I happily provide. They NEVER claimed to be artists, just the commissioner.

If one of my commissioners went on to insist this was THEIR piece that THEY made because they told me what they wanted to see, while I did all the work of actually making it, they'd be fucking insane. They had some input, sure, but they didn't make the damn thing, I did!

Pro-Ai people will say "Well, I wrote all those prompts! I gave it direction, I made it correct things, I noticed the incorrect element and prompted the Ai to fix it!" So, you're a commissioner. You COMMISSIONED an image. You aren't the artist who made it.

I'm currently watching the direct-to-VHS film "Batman & Mr Freeze: Subzero." Sadly it is NOT a Mortal Kombat crossover. What strikes me about this movie the most is how, uhh... well, it's REALLY BORING. Good lord it's dull as hell. It feels like nobody working on it had any energy or care for it.

Sub-Zero is really limp and lame with MUCH worse animation, slapping you in the face with TERRIBLE early 90s CGI for some insane reason, when we know these animators can do so much better than that. MotP also had early CGI for its intro but it looked much better thanks to how its textured overlay.

Obviously the main comparison for most folks is to the first BTAS movie, Mask of the Phantasm. You might think it's unfair to compare a cinematic release with a direct-to-video one but bear in mind MotP was also gonna be a VHS release before some exec saw it and thought it was too good for that.

Mask of the Phantasm hits you immediately with a solid action scene, introduces its main antagonist in this mysterious way, gives them a spooky, cool voice and sets up the mystery right off. Everything in the film is tightly focused on that plot, and there's no fat to trim.

So, I am firmly of the opinion that Heart of Ice is the single best episode of BTAS, and I'm far from alone in that assessment. From the writing to the music to the animation to the beautiful performances, it's an absolute masterclass. It put Mr Freeze on the map as one of Batman's biggest rogues.

I honestly don't think there's a bad episode of the DCAU with Mr Freeze in it. His first and last episodes are by far his best, but none of them go below a 7/10 for me. But this movie, good LORD it's so boring. The pacing is really languid. 15 minutes in and it feels unbearable.

This isn't the first time I've tried to watch this movie. Back almost 20 years ago, someone uploaded it to YouTube in a bunch of parts in super-low quality and I bounced right off it then too, but I sorta assumed if I saw it in HD it'd be more watchable. I was so wrong.

Name a non-LotR character who is a cool and good person but would nevertheless set land speed records for getting fucked up by the One Ring. Happened to him one time using the Sarcophagus.

Ughh I don't know why my brain does this but I just read the title of an article and thought it said the opposite of what it actually said. It's really frustrating, I don't know if it's a symptom of dyslexia or ADHD or what but it can get really embarrassing at times.

I just wanna state for the record: I would much rather watch literally ANY crappy Dingo Pictures movie with their hilariously badly animated nonsense and terrible two-person voiceover team than anything shat out by an LLM. I mean this unironically: Lion and the King is better than ANY Ai "film."

Spike Prime [Art Comms Open]@spikeprime.bsky.social

Oh buddy... Lemme tell ya about a company called Dingo Pictures

That said, with how cheap these were and how they were made of traced and stolen assets, I have no doubt that the people who made these would've done Ai garbage instead if it was available back in the 90s and 2000s when they were making this stuff. But back in the day they had to do this by hand.
