As a Jewish person the elevation of an American as Pope followed subsequently with a World Series for his favorite White Sox & Notre Dame winning the national championship in football would present some tough questions theologically speaking

Bessent’s public behavior as Treasury Secretary, in both words but especially in his actions, is the primary reason for his tarnished reputation. But these profiles of him are doing him no favors. Yes this behavior is juvenile. But even more so it is just absurd.

The FT, WSJ (News), Bloomberg, & NYT are the most preeminent publications in the English speaking world for a reason. That they are anti-American, anti-business, communist, insert hilariously off-base epitaph is insane.

Jay's alma mater lost on Saturday because a senior DB got emotional and committed a dumb personal foul in the last 30 seconds to give Iowa a chance.

👀 The 1st explanation Warsh identified for the rise in the 10 yr since the last mtg is…sure theoretically possible. But it is by no means type of mind for us. And the explanation that he omitted - an explanation that dovetails w/ rises in yields globally - of large deficits not being on his radar.

RS with your home river. Beautiful and tranquil Braes Bayou located in sw Houston. These pictures are all taken where I grew up in the meyerland neighborhood. 1st pic is tropical storm Allison; the next three are from no name storms that occurred in a 4 year window; last is Hurricane Harvey.

Don’t you dare even think about selling even a single treasury. Or else.

Reporter on Bond Market: The yields have come back up since then. Have you talked to Bessent about another type of intervention.? Trump: The ultimate intervention is our military. And if we have to use that, we will.

Seriously @washingtonpost.com publishing him? Spare me the nonsense about viewpoint diversity, sunlight is the best disinfectant, etc…I don’t object to that principle. But it’s not absolute. It’s one thing to publish someone without in any way endorsing them or their message as a public service

to provide insight to readers of someone who otherwise readers would have no other way of learning about in their own words - like for instance the head of state/gov of a foreign adversary. This doesn’t apply to Anton. He’s not nearly that important.

Publishing someone like him - someone who isn’t a public figure for his standing but simply bc of his views & ideas - is an implicit argument that those views and ideas aren’t beyond the pale and objectionable, that they are deserving of consideration in our public discourse. This is abhorrent.

Just received my first ever speeding ticket. In the mail. For speeding in…Saarland (my wife and I did rent a car and drive through Europe earlier this summer). Funny thing is 1) every car was zooming by me pretty much the entirety of my time on the Autobahn. 2) The website isn’t working.

This cruelty has no need but cruelty. Haiti remains deeply dangerous; a country in the throes of anarchy. Hundreds of thousands of people are SAFE. They are safe. They are safe here and the nation has decided to make them unsafe. We are embarking on a tragedy and we cannot look away. We cannot.

Yael Schacher@yaelschacher.bsky.social

So many immigrants I've interviewed break down about this. "Monsanto Maler was one of several Haitian immigrants who traveled from Springfield for a check in...after an ankle monitor was attached to him, Maler was seen collapsing to the ground and crying." www.springfieldnewssun.com/local/hundre...

It is by no means the most troubling thing about 😡’s attempts to sack Gov Cook…but going after the FOMC member who gives the most weight to its labor mandate when it is in tension w/ its inflation mandate is a pretty big own goal in furtherance of 😡’s wish to lower rates or at least hold off hikes.

This would be very amusing if it weren’t for the higher tax bills from higher interest costs bc there weren’t any surprises or news. The rate decision was expected (even w/ 3 dissents) & the presser was just 45 min of obfuscation w/ some word salad thrown in. This shouldn’t have been a result.

Luke Kawa@ljkawa.bsky.social

This was indeed unprecedented: 30-year Treasury yields have never been up this much on a Fed decision while two-year yields fell this much, based on data going back to August 1987.

Again his ideological preoccupation about the size of the balance sheet having undue influence on the price level. If the his task force dedicated to this ? comes back and tells him that his theory has no empirical evidence & little theoretical coherence will he drop it?

This nonsense about rising yields having anything to do with removing forward guidance & ‘the markets playing the referee rather than the ball’ is astoundingly stupid.

If the ‘Public’s Guess’ is taken from survey(s) with identical questions & assuming Catholicism, Atheism, Judaism, & Islam are mutually exclusive w/ say Protestantism… than the participants in aggregate believe that there are < 0 Protestants in the entire country. A negative number of Protestants.

This actually explains something about how people talk about the Jewish community.

Bret’s entire rant is spot-on but this really is the crux of it.

The second strategic failure is that the American people (re)elected a worthless fucking moron like Donald Trump, who is boundlessly confident despite knowing nothing about anything and so asked the US military to do the impossible for no reason at all because he got lucky in Venezuela.

Both the President of the United States & the Secretary of Defense - the two people in command of the most dangerous arsenal in the history of mankind - subscribe to a worldview & possess an attitude virtually indistinguishable from the immature 5 year old that is starting fights on the playground.

Testosterone, and concerns about a shortage thereof, has become a political fixation on the right. Alternative media commentators have decried a crisis of masculinity in films such as The End of Men, while influencers promote “T-maxxing” and direct-to-consumer testosterone injections.

! A fun claim to (not really) fame & something I like to use in 2 truths 1 lie is that I once struck out 4 batters in an inning 2x in a game in high school.

Guys I can’t keep doing this independently. I need a job. If you know of a place—advocacy, OSINT org, think tank, left media, etc—where I could take this work in-house, pls let me know. I admire the folks making independent work for them, but I am collapsing under the weight and the lack of impact.

A few minutes ago, two ICE flights operated by Journey Aviation landed in Eswatini, likely another third-country removal of immigrants to a maximum security prison there. Nineteen people have already been sent there on previous ICE flights in the last nine months. Only two have been released.

1) There has been irreparable damage. There’s no going back to Jan ‘17. Or even Jan ‘25. 2) It is a rational coping mechanism. And yet my wife and I are making plans to leave. 3) This might be myopia as an American - but it really is to all of our detriment. 4) The world will mostly muddle through.

I was remembering that 12 years ago that a weaker than present US squad put up a more competitive fight against a stronger than present Belgian squad…but to this team’s defense I could say it was largely bc Tim Howard played like the best goalie in the world on that day.

I’ve seen that goal dozens of times. Quick outlet to Rice who brings it up the field and distributes it to Saka who fires a dangerous cross that, hopefully (when it’s Ars) eventually finds its way in the back or the net. I yelled out shit as Rice was making his run.

The half went well aside from that 3 min spell. I don’t think we’ve seen the last of Mexico scoring. Hopefully they’ll keep a clean sheet in the 2nd half. Eng will be tired.

Same captains as Champions League Final from just a few weeks ago. The fact that both players are not the best player on their respective club & national teams yet are the captains of both probably says something about their character & the respect they hold among their teammates.

The Adelsons influence on political culture in the USA has been awful. We are all suffering bc of it. However there are no words in the English language that that do justice to the malevolent influence they have imparted on Isr/Pal & the entire region.

Miriam Adelson is horrible, but she's horrible because she's a billionaire buying elections. Thomas Massie can't make a principled critique of all billionaires, because that would lead him to leftism, so he has to single out the "Tel Aviv born" ones. He knows exactly what he's doing here.

I, erm, am happy to admit I was wrong. It was an atrocious use of judgment on what was indeed a judgment call. I’m happy for Flo he won’t be unjustly suspended. I’m happy for Team USA that we’ll be at our full strength. We should never underestimate FIFA’s ability to just act w/out any scruples.

sspin.bsky.social@sspin.bsky.social

It technically can-but one shouldn’t hold out any hope the appeal will be successful. Successful appeals are only in cases where a ref clearly misapplies a rule e.g. the ref awards a ref for a handball incorrectly. The balogun red was a judgment call - fifa won’t overturn a ref’s judgment on appeal

Lol. I don’t hate the player(s). I’m just trying to figure out what this means for all of us that all of our actions - and even our curiosities/thoughts as expressed by web searches - are constantly being monitored & harvested.

Normally I find myself pulling for all of the teams from the Americas, especially from Countries that I follow…but I’m very turned off by this Paraguay team channeling the 90s era Utah Jazz.

I never ever want to hear a single peep from friends as well as commentators & certainly not any elected pols that are supportive of the Republican Party about profligate spending ever again. You’ve surrendered that privilege.

‘Genius’ ‘businessman’ thinks it’s actually advantageous for the business community for political actors to undermine the predictability & reliability of both regulatory & tax regimes where companies operate.
