The TL;DR? 'Trickle-down' economics mathematically fails because wealth gets trapped at the top. A strong economy relies on the high velocity of money, which only happens when the working and middle classes have the resources to spend.

The TL;DR? VAT and sales taxes drain the economy. Raising the exact same amount of revenue through progressive income or wealth taxes is significantly better for overall economic growth and the financial health of the working and middle classes.
