Me, posting on LinkedIn about how I think it's weird that OpenAI is announcing "erotica" amidst ongoing child safety concerns, and it seems like grooming. LinkedIn people: Uh wow jumping to conclusions much? Sure, an AI bot COULD chat up an 8 year old, but isn't that the parents' fault?

Listen, I know "toxic" is a little dramatic but it can also be apt. I used to link build. It's big business for a reason, and the financial incentive still generates bad practices. I've been part of great campaigns, and I've also seen all sorts of justifications for bad links.

I went pretty in-depth on YouTube's algorithm. Imo it's a really good idea for SEOs to understand it even if you're not focused on video. It's a look at what a Google property does when it has complete control over the platform. P.S. Tags don't matter.

What the heck where are all these followers coming from! Hi friends, I haven't been posting much because I'm head down at work prepping for the holidays but I'll post something cool soon (depending on your definition)

SEO PRO TIP Be consistent with signals. Just saw this article by @mattgsouthern.bsky.social I've always said in my audit work "be consistent across signals". Here, a Google rep says it about canonicalization. Reinforces what @johnmu.com has always been advocating.

Dune has the same plot as the Westminster Dog Show: After generations of careful breeding, we have produced this perfect little freak of nature and now it has behavioral issues

In the spirit of Thanksgiving I will make one (1) positive comment about LLMs: They've made it very easy to identify overused language and clichés. They build sentences with statistical probability. So if it "sounds like AI" that probably means it's overused.

I used to cook turkey with Delia Smith's method but last year I tried Padma Lakshmi's buttermilk brine recipe and it's so darn good. So I've developed a weird process somewhere between the two because I just can't give up Delia's stuffing.

However this turns out, it's going to be wild. There are two concurrent cases against Google that could end up forcing it to give up significant assets and advantages. I'd be a little more sympathetic to its arguments if it hadn't spent the last year ramping up AI theft and siphoning traffic.

Reckoning with things I've said and done that hurt people is a difficult part of personal development and growth.

Some got better, yes. Some didn't, or are still working through it, or only got better when loved ones said they were actively being hated and hurt. I talk about my own journey because I wasn't perfect at it, and I did/said/was things that hurt people. I'm still learning and trying to be better.

People often ask me how to know for sure if an image was created by artificial intelligence. So I marked in the attached photo (in the red circles) some clues that make me suspect that it's a fabricated photo, although it's not possible to say with absolute certainty in this case.

I'm an editor and almost exclusively listen to audiobooks for my pleasure reading these days. Anyone dunking on audiobook listeners has no god damn idea what they're talking about.

Storytelling is overrated—your audience doesn’t care about your brand’s journey, they care about their own. (1/6) Just kidding, I love storytelling but...

Today is most definitely the day that I will open Scrivener, find that blank scene that's been haunting me, turn on my focus Spotify playlist, take a deep breath, and reread half my book while making tiny unnecessary tweaks. Let's friggin' GOOOOO!!!! #writerscommunity #horrorwriters 🪐📚

The unfortunate reality being forced upon creatives in marketing is that we must understand gen AI and LLMs in order to compete. Check your outlines and briefs against LLM outputs. Don't USE the outputs, but check them. It sucks. But these are the algos modern search is built on. Know them.

Alli Berry: AI Overviews & The Impact On Search in Finance IMHO just published on YouTube I asked Alli: "In your opinion, what do you think about AI Overviews, how will they impact the industry and where is this going?"
