I know the Halloween Special comes out tomorrow, and I just borrowed BTTWNS: Rite of Spring by @patrickhorvath.bsky.social , which I imagine would be a great lead-in. It’s a good sequel with higher stakes, delightfully creepy art, and a new character that pushes Samantha’s buttons. Libraries rule!

I recently read A Tale of Two Travelers by Madita Schwenke from @fieldmouse.press. It’s an excellent retelling of a Grimm Brothers tale drawn in a gorgeously economical way. I have been super-impressed by many books from Fieldmouse Press, and I suggest folks go check out more of them.

It’s new comic day, and I bought number 1 issues. Are they any good? Will I keep buying the series? Stick around to see… First up, I had to get Legion of Superheroes 1, because the preview art by @cleanlined.bsky.social has been off the charts. I am a long-time LSH fan and haven’t been into

they operated like a small-scale Scooby Gang, riding around in a van and rescuing cats. It’s a quirky visual but also suits the weird vibe they should have. The artwork is amazing, and I really like giant Robotman’s look. Rita and Larry’s personalities come through strongly and Chief hard to read.

Fifth number one: World’s Weirdest, which brings Weird Al into the DC Universe. I am a big Weird Al fan, and it has some fun moments, but overall it feels a bit padded and forced.

The sixth and final number 1 I read today was Doom Patrol by Darcy Van Poelgeest and Niko Henrichon. I’ve read a lot of Doom Patrol comics, mostly good but sometimes bland, and I really liked the tone and feel of this issue. It stars the classic team, introduced them in short order, and I liked how

The fourth number 1 of the day is Tales of Wonder by Steve Skroce and Ian Herring and from @imagecomics.com. I came because Skroce’s artwork is dependably awesome, but I like this riff on the Kirby/Lee relationship with a couple of aging comics creators at a con arguing over who created what, only

to find out that maybe neither of them actually did. The ending cliffhanger seems to be leading to some way out adventure that is as much fantasy-based as it is super heroic. I think the mixed genres make for some interesting reading, plus this artwork is detailed and gonzo. I am in!

beautifully drawn artwork. It’s a different sort of comic but it’s very well designed and packaged. I am going to keep getting this book and I hope it finds its audience. I really like how they have been promoting their books with ashcan previews. That definitely got me to pick this series up.

Archie comics, though I think that’s a good thing. It’s a whirlwind read that gives some space to pretty much the entire cast of characters and a solid introduction to this new direction. I am intrigued enough to keep on, especially because I really like their take on my favorite character Jughead.

still being fresh for a brand-new reader. I especially love the Brainiac 5/Tenzil Kim pairing, and I can’t wait to read more. The story is intriguing and the artwork is EXQUISITE. *chef’s kiss*

Scumburbia: Sleepover by Sam Grinberg is a black & white comic about a couple of teens who are watching an all-night horror movie marathon and get kicked out of the basement by a couple of older kids who want to make out. It’s full of humor and brought me back to the antics of younger days.

I recently read the latest Marvel Team-Up book by @mikemaihack.com, Spider-Man: Mighty Mayhem! and it is a fun romp about the webslinger teaming up with a bunch of shape-changed Asgardians to explore and save the Nine (or is it 10?) Realms. My kids and I love these books!
