Didn’t manage to fit this into my intro at the Barbican (also, spoilers) but I still think about this

I first saw GMK over 20 years ago and it still surprises me. Yuri films a bogus news story as her colleague throws a stone into water to fake a monster appearance. Later, she reports to the entire nation on two very real monsters... and a stone falls into the Port of Yokohama, reviving one of them.

Now that the curtains have closed on All Kaiju Attack: All Stars! at the Barbican, a moment to acknowledge our wonderful guests who joined us from afar with video greetings and heartfelt written messages 💕

Watched Kaneko’s debut feature KOICHIRO UNO’S WET AND SWINGING. This film is what it is - a very 1980s softcore flick, for better and for worse - but there’s no denying Kaneko had it from the very beginning. Even starting out like this, he aimed for the ace 🎾

Shocker

Taika Waititi says that his ‘STAR WARS’ film is not happening anytime in the near future. “It’s very iced. I've got about 4 other movies I'm trying to do.” (Source: www.inverse.com/entertainmen...)

One of my favorite things about Mothra is that it isn't a movie about a "nice" creature. The monster is nature's furious lesson - mankind can try to control nature and monetize it and ruin it, but nature will inevitably win. In its grander scheme, we are powerless.

An honour to welcome the wonderful Allyson Adams back into the kaiju fold at tonight’s screening of FRANKENSTEIN VS. BARAGON at the Barbican. As a child, Allyson travelled to Japan with father, Nick Adams, while he starred in three films for Toho. Thank you for sharing your happy memories with us 💖

Thinking about this again. Worth noting that the first thing Yuri does when she wakes up is ask where her father is, as if she was just with him

Always loved this enigmatic interaction in GMK. Is Yuri appearing in the sub her father's unconscious hallucination, or - in keeping with the film's supernatural themes - are the unconscious Tachibanas communing in the spirit realm... or is this Yuri the last manifestation of the Guardian Monsters?

Netflix's new reality show "Wonka's Golden Ticket" uses AI Gene Wilder as its host. The beloved comedian passed away in 2016, but his voice lives on in AI form. At least Netflix didn't use AI to create the new Oompa Loompas. What do you think of this AI resurrection? Let us know in the comments 👇

Hot take? I believe Tarantino will never make another film. He’s put too much mustard on the whole “final film” thing and is too obsessed with his OUATIH characters. It’s been seven years and no concrete sign of anything moving forward (I know we’ve been here before but it feels different this time)

A long shot, but does anyone have a Barbican Centre programme from last year that mentions the kaiju season they'd be willing to part with? It's for sending back to talent in Japan. Thanks so much!

I know it always sounds disingenuous when you claim people cheered at something you said in public, but it was heartwarming that my proto anti-AI reading of GODZILLA 2000 got such a resounding response at the Barbican a few weeks ago
