Geri Allen was our breakfast soundtrack this morning! A new addition, Dad had her on SACD. Very easy to listen to, perfect morning piano-led trio. Like most of these Classics releases, the pressing and recording are flawless. #jazzsky #vinyl #musicsky #nowplaying #nowspinning

New Vinyl Wednesday II: The Unboxing Hot damn, wow. I've been enamored of Reckoning since freshman year (roommate played it on repeat) Never had my own until now. Fantastic addition to my collection. Saving this for when the Zephyr cart comes back from SoundSmith #postpunk #80s #vinyl #musicsky

My National album day purchase I love Kirsty But Iโ€™ve never had any of her work on vinyl- so had to do something about that! And it still upsets and annoys me that her family never got any real Justice Days is playing now - beautiful song, and a beautiful cover KITE KISRTY MACCOLL

Released 46 years ago! One of my early favorites, I played this a lot... track 2 got scratched somehow but thankfully the whole album is fantastic so I'm happy sticking to Side B. This started my admiration for Steve Lillywhite. #nowplaying #nowspinning #postpunk #80s #musicsky #vinyl

Just let that first sentence sink in. No one could be more deserving. Esperanza Spalding & Gretchen Parlato - Inutil Paisagem #EsperanzaSpalding #GretchenParlato #MusicSky #Jazzsky #SundayJazz

Esperanza Spalding was the first jazz artist to win the Grammy for Best New Artist (2011), beating out Justin Bieber and Drake. The now 5-time Grammy-winning virtuoso bassist, singer, and composer is a leading figure in 21st-century #jazz. She was born #OTD in 1984. #Music #MusicSky

Vinyl of Bands I've Seen #21 So excited to see these guys 30 years after I started listening to them. It was a fun show but Newport's sound was so bad you couldn't even understand Ian's commentary between songs. Ugh. Pick up from Revolver Records Essex #postpunk #newwave #alternative #vinyl

The *other* Night in Tunisia was Selection #18 but Dad was always looking out for this one. I finally found a wonderful France pressing. This later date has Lee Morgan and Wayne Shorter and an electrifying performance from Art Blakey (born today 107 years ago!) #vinyl #jazzsky #musicsky

The child has just started drum lessons and heard me put this on this morning "That is good drumming!" After lesson #2, she is still at the CAT-ER-PIL-LAR TI - GER level, but it's good to have goals

Selection from Dad's Collection #78: Art Tatum, Lionel Hampton, and Buddy Rich! Liking Hamp here better than as a leader. Tatum and Hampton increasingly challenge one another on โ€œThis Can't Be Love,โ€ very cool. MHS reissues have been pretty good, can't fault the sound #vinyl #jazzsky #musicsky

A new addition to my Post Punk collection, Still was released 45 years ago! This one's courtesy of Revolver Records UK I love these studio tracks and the live performance here really shows they'd already begun to transition into the New Order sound. RIP #vinyl #nowplaying #nowspinning

Coltrane's only Blue Note recording as leader. This Tone Poet release is a remarkable listen. The horns are great in mono, especially the opening track. You hear the front line instead of thinking โ€œtrumpet over there, sax over here.โ€ #vinyl #jazzsky #musicsky

I've had the Audio Technica cartridge installed for about a year now, thinking of switching back to the upgraded Dynavector. In the meantime, I just sent Dad's VPI Zephyr back to SoundSmith for a rebuild. Now... Which of the new discs gets to play?

I took some time away from posting over the summer and excited to dive back in to playing and sharing vinyl! A lot of changes into the collection (adding to and refining both mine and Dad's)

Dad had some Turrentine on SACD but the vinyl collection was missing soul-jazz. Warm, bluesy tenor sax, incredible body and texture (you can hear the reed vibrate). Gorgeous Tone Poet release. Thomasville is a standout track. #nowplaying #nowspinning #vinyl #vinylcommunity #musicsky #jazzsky

The Vinyl Fairy has been busy this year! Playing Soon. Mostly trying to add Blue Note depth to the Collection but couldn't *not* make room for some 80s dark wave. And that Joy Crookes disc is a banger! #vinylsky #vinyl #vinylcommunity #musicsk

Now have this cornerstone record on vinyl, MANY years after @dave225.bsky.social introduced me to ร‰thiopiques 4. Introduces Ethiopian scales & rhythms to familiar jazz, making it new, unique, and captivating. Incredible spatial depth here. Nice reissue #nowspinning #vinylsky #vinyl #jazzsky #jazz

Back to Vinyl with this stunning release for my birthday! Brown's best known for live energy but the SOUND on this is relevatory, an audiophile restoration of an icon. Perfect press by MFSL and RTI, the new centerpiece of my R&B section. #vinylsky #vinyl #vinylcommunity #jazz #rnbsky #jazzsky

Mr Rundgren is #77. I know his production(see Skylarking) more than his songs, cool to hear his Dust In The Wind here. Live, minimally practiced, no overdubs? Respect. I appreciate that rawness. This has been a fun series for me #nowplaying #nowspinning #vinylsky #vinyl #vinylcommunity #musicsky

Finally getting around to putting up the Halloween decorations and I can't think of many better albums to listen to while doing it. #vinyl #nowspinning

VINCE! #76 comes from another wacky WB comp. Some good tracks on this. I can't imagine a time before Guaraldi was known for Peanuts, but here it is! Great sound for a comp, recorded loud! (I can play this at min) #nowplaying #nowspinning #vinylsky #vinyl #vinylcommunity #jazz #jazzsky #musicsky

In 1970, WB was trying to appeal to the anti-establishment kids (what happened to them??) Some crazy, trippy, tracks on here, a lot I've never heard of! I'll pick Arlo's _Coming into Los Angeles_ for #76 #nowplaying #nowspinning #vinylsky #vinyl #vinylcommunity #musicsky

#75 is a CRAZY weird mix of music, wow Would've chosen Cinnamon Girl but... No disc 1, only a mis-shelved "After the Gold Rush", which I have no sleeve for ๐Ÿ˜ฅ Nice sound, loud-mastered vinyl. Lorraine is phenomenal(!), that's soul! Why haven't I heard her? #nowplaying #nowspinning #vinylsky #vinyl

These were on steady rotation when I was a kid. Over the next week I'll be playing a track from each of these to be the Selection From Dad's Collection numbers 75 to 80! #vinylsky #vinyl #vinylcommunity #musicsky

7-inch for October 7 I love Bowie's vocals on the soundtrack more than on the Let's Dance version. And the film was so hot for a teenager in the 80s, not sure it still stands up today ๐Ÿ˜† Nice sounding 45rpm, dynamic and loud! #nowplaying #nowspinning #vinylsky #vinyl #vinylcommunity #musicsky

LOTS of bass on Blue Wing, good recording. Thanks @zos93.bsky.social for inspiring me to dig out Bill Nelson vinyl. Vistamix is more dated, VERY early 80s electronic, but I prefer it. A bit of Japan (Mick Karn on a track!), a bit of Devo? #nowplaying #nowspinning #vinyl #vinylcommunity #musicsky

#74 from Dad's Collection, back from his music festival days. Santana is legendary and unmistakable. He also had this on SACD and now I see why, too many clicks & pops. Back on the shelf it goes and I'll keep enjoying it in HiRes! #nowplaying #nowspinning #vinylsky #vinyl #vinylcommunity #musicsky

FIRST exposure to Simple Minds was a friend's gold marbled New Gold Dream (loved). 2 releases later, their sound is less New Wave, still great. Great 1985 US pressing. No noise, great mastering, good bass. This is on repeat. #nowplaying #nowspinning #vinylsky #vinyl #vinylcommunity #musicsky #80s

One of my faves of the used finds. I love the small group live recordings, though there is nothing special or audiophile about this one. A few snaps and pops, but a really enjoyable, listenable session, on the cool side ๐Ÿ•ถ๏ธ #nowplaying #nowspinning #vinylsky #vinyl #vinylcommunity #jazz #jazzsky

73 is a rarity, an early RR recording that was something of an accident. 5 veteran musicians doing what they did best, not fiery, just masterful jazz. Norvo is my new favorite vibraphonist and this is a stellar recording, lovely. #nowplaying #vinylsky #vinylcommunity #jazzsky
