My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

The early voting blog is updated! As Week 2 of in-person early voting begins, signs are ominous right now for NV Republicans. The election isn't held today, but if it were, there would be a blue wave. I show you why in this post, and more data later. thenevadaindependent.com/article/the-...

thenevadaindependent.comThe early voting blog, 2026 general - The Nevada IndependentUsing actual data from those who vote early, we track November's marquee races, including those for Nevada's governor, congressional seats and state Legislature.

Once again, during election season, I am reminded how comforting it must be to be MAGA. You're going to win; if the polls say you're not, they're fake; if you actually lose, they cheated. Never a concern, never a doubt. Whereas "Democrats fret" is a standard headline.

When I was young, I hoped to age handsomely like Tom Skerritt, Sam Elliott, etc. Now I realize that you sort of need to look them them when you're younger for that to work. RIP Tom Skerritt.

People who have been around politics a long time may be struck as I was by the sheriff's signature on this arrest warrant for Amy Acton's stepfather, who at the time was a fugitive. Does the name James Traficant ring a bell?

Who knew that you could sell stuff for cheap if you never pay your supplier? Why don't other businesses think of this?

“.. a high-octane metaphor for the president’s approach to governing, with all its corner-cutting and haste and disdain for regulation .. the tale of Freedom Fuel also shows how the administration’s free-wheeling approach to problems can create an even bigger mess. www.politico.com/news/magazin...

SCOOP: 'Tommy' from the now-viral exchange with Abdul El-Sayed is Thomas Teepell, a former staffer for Republican Senator Josh Hawley with close ties to Christian Nationalist Sean Feucht. He's the son of a former Bobby Jindal staffer whose consultant work was instrumental in getting Hawley elected.
