It's the guns. I've always said that a good guy with a gun is a bad guy with a gun when he catches someone with his wife/GF-but now it's when he's mad about a parking spot. We live in the stupidest country in the stupidest of times. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...

"In many places, French’s unapologetic, unvarnished bigotry would be disqualifying. But given Texas’ strong Republican leaning he stands a better-than-even chance of being elected in November to the state Railroad Commission, which, despite its name, oversees Texas’ vast oil and gas industry."

When gun enthusiasts yell about the benefits of a "good guy with a gun," I like to point out that a good guy with a gun may turn into a "bad guy with a gun" the very second that he catches a "friend" with his wife or girlfriend. Which is pretty much what this article is about.

Sadly, the Idaho legislature appears to disagree with you and is perfectly happy to see moronic parents killing their children by withholding lifesaving medical care. It's utterly obscene.

Fourteen years ago, HBO's 'The Newsroom' laid out the truth about voter ID in this segment. It’s striking how little the arguments — or the tactics — have changed. Still a solution in search of a problem. History doesn’t repeat itself — it gets rerun.

Yes, it should have been him over Dolly. But let’s be real, it should have been him over LITERALLY anyone. Him over the guy who died from fentanyl on the street. Him over 103 year old Ethel passing away in the nursing home. Him over that squirrel that got hit by a car.

This is an unusually direct piece addressing the NY Times' constant both-sidesing of the parties/denigration of anyone progressive - all while allegedly being part of the much feared and denigrated liberal media (LOL); www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Could someone please send this piece to Hakeem Jeffries, who apparently met recently with Jared Kushner to discuss "common ground" (!) for Dems and Repubs to jointly work on going forward if Dems take the House in November? Please? digbysblog.net/2026/08/23/r...

Interesting piece that posits, pretty convincingly, that while US incomes are generally higher than incomes in western Europe, the US in fact has higher levels of poverty, with people not as well off. The villain is greater inequality in the US. www.euronews.com/business/202...

As both a retired lawyer and as a person who loathes AI, I get a kick about the many law firms who are getting sanctioned for using it. Got a particular kick out of this one as Sullivan is a huge, very well known firm who should definitely know better. www.theguardian.com/technology/2...

Given all the publicity about lawyers getting sanctioned for using AI and as a result citing fake case law/authorities, one would think that lawyers would stop using AI - or, at least, stop using it without checking/double-checking AI's work. But one would be wrong. www.latimes.com/california/s...

At the core of all this, is really being pushed right now? More screen time for kids. Yay?

Given that my kid's district seems to be diving into the AI rabbit hole, I dug into what we actually know about AI outcomes to justify spending billions on untested slop. The studies say, Not much! And the worst of it is anti-critical thinking.
