I've begun work on Yushanfang's 1/96 scale "Hawthorne Cake" Sazabi, and I think I have DRASTICALLY underestimated how big this thing is gonna be. The shield alone is only slightly smaller than a 20oz bottle of soda. This thing is going to be an absolute monster, and I am HYPED.

Last up is the Beam Tomahawk, which will ALWAYS be displayed in Full Saber mode, because who wouldn't?? Naturally, it flouresces under UV the same way as the monoeye, but due to its size, this thing can actually cast a significant amount of green light on things around it if I hold the light close.

Even with circumstances making the build take longer than it should have, this has been a very satisfying build from start to finish. All I have to do now is apply a few of the waterslides, and hope they arent as atrocious as Bandai's. It's the only part I'm NOT looking forward to. Wish me luck~!

Funnels, funnels, funnels. Always the most tedious part of building a kit like this. ...except it kind of wasn't, TBH. Maybe it's because there are only 6 of them, and they're small. They went together quickly.

The rifle went together even faster. Aside from the muzzle, handle, and those red power cables on top, it's only two pieces that get sandwiched together around the others. I actually used the green foil stixker for the camera on this one. I have a EX Green Gundam Marker, but it didn't look as good.

"...and I'll form the head!" That's better. Now the Rick Dias is wearing Char's stahlhelm, so it suddenly looks like Sazabi again. The forehead camera is made of the same plastic as the monoeye, and I was right about the UV light. Look at that thing glow!

The backpack also has lots of opportunities for adding color. The main body of it has hatches which open up and reveal mechanical details, and of course the inside of the funnel pods have all kinds of things to paint inside. And speaking of funnels...

And now the pauldrons. Lots more opportunity for highlighting and panel lining here than there was with the arms. I'm finding that it's often better to use paint than the foil stickers. Many of them have large clear sections and only a little silver on them, so they seem less practical.

LOL, I guess I'm suddenly building a Rick Dias now...? A cool detail about this kit is that the clear monoeye piece comes in the same UV-reactive neon green plastic as the beam saber blades.

I painted the power cables on the mantle yellow, to match the ones at the waist. They feel like the same kind of hoses that would be found on a Zaku, so it felt like they should be the same color.

TO ARMS! ...or rather, "Two Arms". These went together quickly, compared to most other parts of the kit. Painting the tricep pistons may have been a mistake because of how tight the pieces fit together. I think it might scrape off somewhat quickly if I move them a lot. Dang.

Why... is there so much stuff... on this butt-flap?? Seriously, I've built entire kits that have less detail than this one piece — and most of it just gets covered up by the armor!

Next up is the torso. Lots of pieces layered on top of others in order to facilitate the... Well, it's not really an ab-crunch, because it's higher up than that. A "chest-crunch"?

Leg #1 is done. So many opportunities for panel lining and details that could go unnoticed, and that I frankly didn't appreciate on the RG. It really is a shame that Bandai won't release those 1/100 RG models they were showing off.

Work on the Hawthorne Cake has been slow. It's typical for me to take my time, but when I don't HAVE any time to take it can feel absolutely glacial. That said, the waist is complete, and I've started work on the skirt armor. Next up is the detail-heavy butt-flap.

Mentions of "Fauci" on X have mostly vanished since the data centers in Russia were destroyed by Ukrainian bombs. SMITE!💥

Truth be told, I go through a LOT of these pens because of that reason. It's so much time, paint and work to detail all those parts, which will ultimately be covered up by the armor anyway. ...but *I* know how it looks on the inside, and that's important to me.

I built the shield first just to clear up some space, because the runners that these big-ass pieces are on take up SO much space in my small work area. Next up: Feet. As always, I couldn't resist the urge to zhuzh them up with a silver Sakura Pen-Touch marker to enhance the mechanical details.

HG Draken E. As a Sniper II fan I had to get one of these, and lucked out. I somehow won this on EBay with a single $15 bid. A very different build than the average kit, with some pretty cool features. It was fun to zhuzh it up with some extra color, especially in its impressively-detailed cockpit.

My unvaccinated brother died of COVID in 2021. I was about a year and a half into my epidemiology career. Healthcare staff did absolutely everything they could but they cannot cure ignorance. They cannot cure an anti-science belief and culture. Thats YOUR responsibility. Not Dr. Fauci’s.

Y'know what'd be cool? If a bunch af artists redrew a single frame from the 1979 Mobile Suit Gundam eye-catch to create a composite animation of old grandad in different styles! Maybe a few other select animations too, but gotta start small! but I think it would be neat.
