This was prompted by a CNBC headline on a nearby monitor covering the Anthropic IPO which quoted Anthropic saying something to the effect of, if the development of AI isn’t handled responsibly it could have devastating results for mankind. Good times!

That buainess about God delivering himself in human form so that he could feel the actual suffering of his every creation and then using that suffering to redeem all? That lofty bit eluded these sadists in its entirety. Whatsoever they do to the least of other people, hey, they were asking for it.

@gabrielzucman.bsky.social: So let met get that straight: paying a wealth tax is impossible (“billionaires have no liquidity”, “it would be taxing unrealized gains”, “their wealth is virtual”) but one man paying half a billion to influence elections is possible. Did I understand well?

This is now the official Presidential portrait for Donald J. Trump. Sorry, I don’t make the rules.

Someone should create a website like Iraq Body Count that keeps a running total of the estimated deaths Elon Musk is responsible for through different actions on his part.

It continues to be sad to see CBS turning into a non-news network and more of a propaganda outlet like Fox “News.”

Right-wing billionaires now own the Washington Post, the LA Times, CNN, CBS News, virtually every local TV station, virtually every news radio station, most local newspapers, X, Facebook, Threads, and TikTok. (Did I miss any?) They own almost the entire information environment.

Observation from a lifetime’s experience and interaction with many people who suffered abuse or neglect: Those parents often “believe they did their best.” They may well have but they may have been terribly abused as well. And may not be the best judges of the impact of their own behavior.

This is a quietly metastasizing moral panic

Just one example: If you have a gay or trans child and you denied the reality of their existence, forcing them to adhere to norms rather than accepting them as themselves, calling them a “sinner,” etc, you may have “done your best” and still be incredibly abusive in ways you may never understand.

I disavow Creed, Kings of Leon, and Nickelback.

I disavow the Muslim Brotherhood, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (they know why) and every musical artist or stage musical actor that has, at any point, sung the phrase "brotherhood of man."

ICE continues to kill people.

A 56-year-old Mexican man held at a federal immigration facility in Laredo was found dead in his cell Saturday morning. His family says the center would not give him medicine for diabetes, high blood pressure and a heart condition. He is the 7th person to die in ICE custody in Texas this year.

Sadly this story doesn’t even rate that highly among the constant cavalcade of horrifying stories related to this administration, but it’s another example of how he cares not a whit about consent and has the mentality of a rapist. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/18/u...

You’re telling me not to kneecap myself on purpose and I already did. What’s your solution? Why do you insist on being the bag guy?

JD Vance: "I see what Abdul El-Sayed says about the war in Iran. I see him criticizing decisions the president has made, the military has made. But fundamentally we are where we are.I'd like to know what's Abdul El-Sayed's solution for the problem we have right now? It's easy to criticize"

The scope of the harm this administration is doing to this country is so broad and so staggering beyond belief that we’ve long moved beyond any one person’s ability to truly track and comprehend it.

Across the country, hospitals under financial strain are shuttering their delivery units, putting expectant mothers at greater risk. As Trump’s cuts to Medicaid take effect, these “maternity care deserts” will only grow. newrepublic.com/article/2166...
