Speaking of best use of resources for science: bsky.app/profile/kevi...

Bell Labs. The $1 trillion that tech monopolies have spent on AI so far could've funded ONE THOUSAND YEARS of research of the style, scale, and quality that Bell Labs once knew. An absolutely staggering opportunity cost in innovation, creativity, discovery. What might have been.

When I was an intern (99), we snickered at our attending who was working on medical therapy for melanoma, because there was nothing that worked. That laugh was on us, bc fast forward to today, when there is very effective therapy, and this vaccine is on top of that. I just love science sometimes

I'm probably alive now because of the determined work of the scientist who created immunotherapy. Apparently it was a lonely 15 year road of being doubted.

A new Covid winter wave is here. Get your booster and stop eating animals for good. www.theguardian.com/world/2020/j...

Nothing prevented more skin #cancer than banning CFCs that cause the ozone hole. The Earth Energy Imbalance is still growing and more solar radiation is coming in. A vaccine can reduce some symptom risks, not the cause. Food crops would need a solar radiation vaccine the most, if we wanted to live

I have ovarian clear cell which is hard to treat but there is a trial out there for my cancer using mRNA and we need more funding and this stupid anti mRNA lie to go away so that we can have an attempt at a life lengthening treatment.

Worth noting with this, it's not a vaccine in the sense of "take this x times and never get melanoma", it's a therapy used after surgical excision of your existing melanoma has occured. Then, using the removed tissue target mutations specific to your cancer are encoded into synthetic mrna

Yep. This👆👆 Every surgery I have had, started with a biopsy. Instead of „Ok, we need to make a 3 cm cut in your face. Ooops sorry. The boundaries weren‘t clean, so we need to do it again.“ It could be „Ok, you need this shot“. 👍👍👍

Bobby Jr., with all his sun worship and tanning booth patronage, should be applauding such a vaccine innovation and would certainly make use of it if needed, but he probably will have nothing good to say about it while he works to defund and block mRNA vaccine development.

'The company's name is derived from the terms "modified", "RNA", and "modern"' TIL

Investors, of course, lopped 20% of Moderna’s stock price because efficacy isn’t as high as they’d like. Tell that to a cancer patient. Nearly halving the odds of recurrence is huge.

I’ve had skin cancer and it’s painful—after numbness wears off after having part of yourself removed — and the risk never goes away. Cartilage HURTS after surgery. I had to shave on side of my hair at 4 am because it was touching my bandage. My ear closed up because of swelling.

My sister in law had it on her nose, they removed it, but if she ever gets cancer again it'll be classed as the same cancer or something, I wonder if this'd be good for her??

She may well be the exact target audience... bsky.app/profile/rois...

Thanks, some good info for a subject way over my head, mRNA vaccines are brilliant that's all I know, and we're just starting with them, imagine 10yr down the line what we'll have cured, it's amazing and it gives you hope.

This is apropos of nothing, but I was struggling with a pesky skin rash and three days after my Moderna Covid shot it completely disappeared. My doc and my dermatologist couldn’t explain it. It has never returned.

This breakthrough shows the power of public science! But medical progress means nothing if blocked by corporate greed. A social democracy must ensure public funding drives life-saving innovation and guarantee universal, free access so treatments benefit all humanity, not private profit.

They will have to already have had the cancer, which may concentrate their minds a little: bsky.app/profile/rois...

This is the kind of research Moderna had been working on when COVID showed up. They had the toolset and applied to diseases. They’re just now getting back to targeting your personal cancer given a biopsy.

I have only had the moderna covid vaccine...every year. I have NEVER tested positive for covid. Did you know that Moderna outperformed pfizers drug? I did. Go Moderna!

I had melanoma in between two toes, which was only discovered when a dermatologist and did a thorough mole check. As soon as she pointed it out, I knew what it was, but who looks there? So go to the dermatologist regularly, especially if you’re in your 50s and up.
