On Monday, we're in court to see if the man charged with 12 indictable offenses will finally be getting trial dates (after his previous two trial dates were pushed due to him changing council repeatedly). While we wait, he's still able to work in #lethbridge as a realtor, accessing people's homes 🫠

Ironically, this man infringed against us, too, back in 2023 .... (Non-payment for services rendered & identity fraud using the identity information he accessed from us as part of his licensed role as a realtor lol) According to reddit threads, we aren't the only people he didn't pay, either.

Call me cynical, but I feel those who "might be at risk of" being influenced to change their vote .. off a motion made by city council .. likely aren't politically engaged enough to read the motion in the first place?! Also: did anyone ELSE read the vote-influencing-mail sent directly by the ABGov?

Responses to this op-ed have fallen into two camps: (1) those rightly appalled by how the mayor & 2 councillors behaved (2) those blaming the motion’s author, suggesting that 3 grown men losing their composure was somehow β€œher fault.” Thanks to the #Lethbridge Herald for printing this work!!

I'll be honest & admit the UCP mail I got, "paid for by the Govt of AB", I stopped reading after the first line about how Alberta was NOT getting a fair shake from to Ottawa. πŸ™„ (Or maybe that was the radio ad?) Either way, some taxfunded people definitely were trying to influence the vote.

(I found it especially rich how one councilor specified he would vote against the motion on principle, because he doesn't like that some people are being othered & labeled as separatist. (Umm.. questions 1 - 5 target immigrants specifically, but calling someone a separatist is a bridge too far??)

...or the questions themselves, even? This whole referendum, & the rhetoric from ABGov's "non-partisan" Vote Yes taxpayer-funded campaign was specifically designed TO influence the electorate to vote yes ..was anyone else concerned about that influence, or just the "risk" of this motion?

I was more apprehensive about the 9 #Alberta referendum questions than the separation one. I don't want to say too much until all the tallies are done & counted. But the "proof of citizenship" being the highest "yes" so far really underlines the power of propaganda.

However, the rhetoric that misled the majority of voting Albertans to think our vote is at risk by non-citizens [voting] is ironic... especially considering the non-citizen influence involved in creating the dynamics to make people think this

As long as you're in line by 8pm, you can have your say! #lethbridge your voice matters! πŸ’Œ

Disgusting but not surprising. Adding insult to injury, Albertans have spent millions on translocation of Sage Grouse from the US, captive breeding programs, habitat studies, radio tracking, and population genetics. All for naught. #abpoli #Canada #wildlife #birds

⚠️ BREAKING ⚠️ The Government of #Alberta has removed provincial habitat protections for the endangered #GreaterSageGrouse without ANY public consultation or official announcement. This puts one of our iconic, #grasslands species at IMMINENT risk of extirpation πŸ’” #AbLeg #AbPoli #SpeciesAtRisk

I confessed that I am an Albertan originally from BC on IG and the pro-separatist crew are leaving me comments that I should "go back to BC" It doesn't bother me, personally. But I can't imagine what your soul must be like to unpromptedly tell someone to leave the place they now call home. #abpoli

It is scary to speak out. It is much safer to remain "neutral" But if our elected officials choose not to speak out for us, in efforts to protect their own positions of power, what good is that power?

My latest about local leadership in #Lethbridge & why several of our elected officials did not vote to affirm our place in Canada.

We are finding a noted increase in rac!st graffiti & stickers on the streets of Lethbridge, words championing that some people "don't belong" in Lethbridge, or Alberta, or Canada. If council doesn't think this referendum isn't encouraging a very angry subset of our population, we have a big problem

Yes, everyone can vote their conscience & believe whatever they wish. But remaining neutral on a topic that is anything but is not protective of the electorate. Using the idea of "swaying votes" as an excuse, is not in the best interest of Lethbridge, no matter how you look at it

I, too, am worried about separation.. but more so than the concept of Alberta separating; I worry about the divide being created between neighbours. The rhetoric is stoking an "us" vs "them" that is showing up beyond forums and Facebook.

Regardless of whether or not you agree with separation, the links to foreign influence should be considered. Unelected separatist promoters offering AB resources in exchange for US support is concerning. (I also worry stoking the fires of separation as a valid concept encourages annexation)

Shout out to @strudelbrand.com for making Lethbridge more interesting and promoting Peter Pan Goes Wrong, which we went to this afternoon. A well done local production of a classic Goes Wrong play. #yql #Alberta

Today, someone told us they found h/te symbols & slurs written on the bridge at Nicholas Sheran. After we painted over them, we walked to the Dear Stranger project on the other side of the park, & found this note, left the night before. I want everyone to visit this park & feel safe. #lethbridge

There is a videographer in #Lethbridge that has been using AI to generate rac!st & v!olent videos. He has also been targeting us (& others) mal!ciously for years. I have been quiet about the h/r/ssment I have received but clearly silence is what allows this behaviour to entrench.

Ugh, just found & removed a racist sticker from a lamppost here in downtown #lethbridge Didn't take a photo of it but keep your eyes out 😞
