Spent this morning at the ER but because academic life is never allowed to stop, managed to get a paper reviewed in between doctors, nurses, and imaging. As I tell my students, academic life is great because you can choose which 60-80 hours per week that you work!

I had the pleasure of appearing on the BBC podcast "Evil Animals" with Russell Kane and the delightful Desiree Burch recently to discuss crows - evil, or genius? Tune in to hear the verdict. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m... [we recorded this in the peak summer heatwave - hence sartorial choices!]

Obama: "Canada, that historical adversary of ours. It's your neighbour, a few minutes drive over the bridge. They are the nicest people. And somehow we've gotten them so mad because they're just constantly being abused and talked about. Talking about annexing their country, making it a 51st state."

Dear colleague, No I am not dealing with edits on your grant proposal after 4pm on a Friday and it’s due on Monday. Especially when as a coPI I told you to fix that a month ago in an earlier draft and you didn’t.

My general sentiment towards my “colleagues” and support staff at my institution this week. A week of regularly addressing issues that other people created while trying to get medical treatment. And they honestly wonder why I prefer working at home…

It's great that a moa egg, which was taken from an urupa (Māori burial), is returning to Aotearoa NZ. It's a pity that it has been caught up in @itiscolossal.bsky.social latest publicity stunt at the Colossal (sorry, fossil birds) conference in Christchurch www.rnz.co.nz/news/science... 1/4 🧵

While I appreciate and understand that everyone works differently, don't expect co-PI's on grants to drop everything 24-48 hours before a deadline with no notice because that's how you work. That's not being collaborative or collegial. That's being a dick. #academicsky

As I was half heartedly trading barbs with this troll about the Alberta referendum I “coincidentally” received a phishing scam from a Russian bot account. Others might want to block this account.

Military sources had told Global News a live-fire exercise at CFB Wainwright hit a gas line or well. Wainwright has 284 wells inside the base. CFB Suffield, where the Army is ramping up training, has 11,332. Soldiers train on top of Alberta’s well field. This is Alberta y’all. Map from AER data:

A little better video from yesterdays Whooping Crane experience. Check out the cute colt. We saw 61 of these beautiful and endangered birds. About 540 in Canada make up the world population of 800 #bird #birds #nature #wildlife #migration

I continue to question wtf is wrong with East Lethbridge. How has Neudorf represented them or the city effectively ever? What can he point to that was a positive change since he was elected as MLA? (trick question as the answer is nothing) #abpoli

Not surprised. This region has a long history of xenophobia, homophobia, misogyny and just flat out white supremacy so why not try and manipulate the vote

I should be en route to Auckland, but my physiology conspired against me and I am grounded for the foreseeable future. My plenary talk will at least be on video, but gutted that I cannot attend in person. #ornithology #SAPE2026 #neuroethology

Disgusting but not surprising. Adding insult to injury, Albertans have spent millions on translocation of Sage Grouse from the US, captive breeding programs, habitat studies, radio tracking, and population genetics. All for naught. #abpoli #Canada #wildlife #birds

Wolfe also said, while explaining his motion to refer to next week, that "The voters win as any indication of trying to influence the voters eliminated." The 2 comments insinuate impropriety on the part of the motion's author, & it's dirty politics. Taking a public position isn’t voter interference.
