For anyone finding this, I’m a former game engine coder who worked at Torus Games for 10 years, THQ BlueTongue and then 5 years at Big Ant. Now I work at A2I2 at Deakin making stuff to help people in healthcare, aged care, dementia and mental health research, and otherwise to benefit the community.

Bought a new PC with Windows 11, which is Windows 10 but now screams at you constantly to subscribe to Office 365, forces you to log in via a Microsoft account (breaking interop), installs OneDrive with no choice and only exists to turn the user into a product. It's an abomination.

I bought this PC mostly for gaming, switching to Mac years ago for everything else was clearly the right move. Looking forward to Steam OS being released with wider hardware support. I hope it obliterates Windows gaming. Windows 11 needs to die.

Where does Dennis Walter source his unicorn blood? Carols since 1971… Not even I’m that old. This guy was popular with the oldies 30 years ago. Something doesn’t add up.

Google are deprecating the Google Fit API, so spent 2.5 days refactoring our permissions management in our SDK to support its “replacement”, Health Connect. Then realised it’s not actually a replacement as unlike Fit there’s no built-in collection of step count and distance data. Android is a mess.

So now I need to implement step counting and distance estimation based off stride length when the Fit API used to just give it to me in a likely more accurate manner, because we can’t rely on users installing a fitness package on top of our app AND Health Connect just for that simple use case.

Like many an attempt by AusGov to censor and manage access to the internet in Australia, this is an idea which sounds reasonable and like it's about safety but will ultimately infringe on rights and privacy, and deny people access to communities and information they need.

Think it's worth remembering that News Corp launched its social media ban campaign not long after Meta announced no more news payments. The PM describing it as prompted by community concern is missing the massive self-interest aspect to this.

Ooh 20k followesr on BlueSky - that's pretty healthy but obviously not quite the million we had/have on the sad old shit hole that Twitter is these days. Do tell your friends that Fesshole is HERE, so that they can follow us / block us, dependent on their feelings.

I’ve finally gotten around to watching Invasion. It’s TERRIBLE. I have no idea why Apple keep renewing it. I finished S1 and it was BAD, I can’t stomach season 2. There was a whole episode that was so dark it was unwatchable, might as well have been on Audible.

Give me a bad sci fi series or movie and I’m usually all over it. Not with this. I’m actually rooting for the aliens, I just want to watch all the characters perish, they’re so annoying and horrendously written.

You are up to date.
