Always find it interesting that the same people that feel you should "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" always are against inheritance taxes. IMHO, inheritance is income

Roads, bridges, tunnels, traffic lights, etc are all operated and maintained by taxes, because it's good for people and businesses. Why can't we have free public transport too? We've been subsidising the car industry for too long.

From the just released draft of the guidance on the Equality Act 2010. Probably one of the most self contradictory document I've read in a while.

@gwr.com not only your app doesn't allow to use a VPN or from abroad, now we have to log in every single time. I'm going back to use Trainline until you get serious software engineers. Or listen to them. I'm available to consult if you're interested 😅

Can you guys (@bsky.app) stop letting AI drive all your development and get some proper engineers check and test the AI slob code? This app keeps getting worse since you announced you were using more AI. I'm all for it, but have some due diligence.

It's frustrating to see people talk about EVs without knowing what they are talking about. I have a 6yo 2nd hand EV with 60k miles on it, and the battery is still at 96% of capacity. Also, I don't have access to home charging and it's absolutely fine, charge it once a week while I do my shoping.

@gwr.com can you tell your app developers to stop geo blocking your mobile API? If I'm traveling abroad I should still be able to use your app to plan trips for when I'm back. Cowboy mistake if I'm honest. Also, your new login requires to login every time. I'm just gonna go back to using Trainline.

I had to take a taxi recently, due to trains not running. There was a Tesla taxi driver. I clearly gestured no to them and promptly waited for another taxi. Felt well proud of that slight wait.

Ignoring code warning and deprecations is alike ignoring that pesky tooth ache. Sure, you'll be ok for a bit, but you're gonna need a painful root canal or extraction instead of a hygienist visit every now and then. Clean your code at least twice a day 🤭

This stuff should be illegal. It says 0% interest. But 3 x £299.60 is £898.80 Which is the equivalent of over 80% APR. Don't get tricked by false advertising. Always run the numbers.

Truth and transparency? Isn't this the same entity that got fined more than 1 billion dollars for spreading misinformation. I give up, when can I wake up from this nightmare?

it’s really starting to feel like at some point we entered an alternative reality where everything got completely fucked up and evil

@gwr.com It's ridiculous that your mobile app will log you out and send you to their website when abroad or using a VPN. Mobile apps are just fancy websites, such an arbitrary and hostile decision.

I had to double check that it wasn't @theonion.com

Pope Leo XIV has blasted how wealthy people live in a “bubble of comfort and luxury” while the poor suffer. In his first teaching document Thursday, Leo confirms that he is in perfect lockstep with Pope Francis on matters of social injustice.

I've always been for having an ID card, we have them everywhere the rest of Europe. However, claiming it's to stop illegal migrants is so detached from reality. The people that abuse undocumented migrants and lower wages are not checking documentation are they? Why are the red Tories so bad at this?

Some transgender people see only darkness in front and behind them. The current climate is especially accelerating this. Transgender people just want to love the people they love and live their lives as themselves. Let's all join hands and change the world🫶🌏🫶

@fairphone.com I swear the Fairphone 5 gets worse with every update. Now it keeps killing my podcast app or killing the keyboard for no reason. I really wanted to support such a good cause, but it's such a disappointment 😥

Holy crap, I just had my phone hung up with my bank after half an hour wait. It just killed the process for the phone.

When designing a user interface ALWAYS expect two things: lag and failure. Living in the South West with limited connectivity made me even more aware of these 😅

Every time I see one of their meetings it reminds me of this.

"Are you ready for this, media?" -- Bondi turns to the press and credits Trump for saving "258 million lives"

Dear Android Devs, Unit tests are not class tests. Given how we can mock the network (with Ktor) and use in-memory databases with Room, our units under test should be the ViewModel and the UI (screenshot tests) Anemic tests ensure implementation is difficult to change, for little to no value.

There goes my excuse to convince people to move to sqldelight 🤭 Nah, this is great news, glad to see more kmp libs coming up 🙌

Room 2.7.0 is out today with Kotlin Multiplatform support! It now supports Android, iOS, JVM (Desktop), native Mac, and native Linux. Plus Kotlin code gen becomes the default for KSP and KSP2 is fully supported. developer.android.com/jetpack/andr...

Next time someone asks you to use SCREAMING_CASE with #kotlin enum classes, just change it to a sealed class.

This week, someone at Google had a ticket to make sure this renamed worked depending on the locale. Just like Winston at the Records Department of the Ministry of Truth.

On a train that costs £90 if you buy it before boarding or £60 each way if you get a return. My carriage has about 20 people. It can sit 90. Supply and demand rarely works in practice, but specially for natural monopolies.

Trains should be treated like roads, hospitals, schools, essentials. They should be nationalised and free (maybe we could be required to pay for seat reservation and first class)

I wish we had the decimal calendar, that way every NY eve would be at the same time every year, after a long weekend.

I do something similar with Android Studio and Intellij, the main shortcut I remember is cmd+shift+a to search actions. Also have a custom one to open the branch menu.

tpwrtrdmn@tpwrtrmnky.bsky.social

Shh. It's okay. Go into Blender's preferences. Under "keymap", go to "spacebar actions" and change it from "play" to "search". Now every time you don't remember the hotkey for something you can just search it up, which is worth losing a keyboard key for playing animations 99% of the time.

Design systems are great. However, what's the value of making spacing constants for spacing values? I get semantic names, like `page_padding` or `minimum_button_height`. However space4, space8, etc, feel like unnecessary abstractions. Are they ever gonna change? CC: #androiddev
