I’m really so glad I’ve been rediscovering portraits recently. I was feeling disillusioned with photography largely in the first part of one year and being able to channel my energy into making art with my friends has been so wonderful 💚

F1 has already been losing me with the dogshit regulations and racing this year, I’m definitely not feeling any need to watch the rest of the season after pulling this shit

as a trans racing fan i’m not sure how i am meant to interpret F1 giving Sophie Cunningham the checkered flag at COTA besides an explicit statement of support for powerful people who would seek to exclude me and my friends from society

I hate that my job hurts my body. I’d much prefer hurting my body the old fashioned way - weird fucked up sex!

Fun Juneau fact: she was the only puppy in her litter and her owners gave her a moose toy that they gave to us when we got her, and to this day she has never destroyed Moose like she’s done with other toys 🥹

The NMUSAF, especially the R&D Hangar, is crazy bc you’ll like “holy shit it’s the Valkyrie oh what’s that under its wing oh shit is that an X-15?!”

Some favorites from the Charley Harper exhibition at the Cincinnati Art Museum. Harper has long been a favorite artist of mine, and I have admired his National Parks posters particularly. I never expected to see the original paintings in person and just feel so grateful to have done so

I’ve been thinking about You Can See Everything all day. It wont leave my brain. It’s hard to summarize feelings I have into pages, let alone 300 characters. It is a masterpiece

Mountain Goat on the slopes of the Mt Saint Helens blast zone at sunset, with the log raft of Spirit Lake behind

Okay phone photos from my hike yesterday: Tldr: Mt St Helens is a surreal and stunning landscape. It feels entirely inhospitable to human life, I am enthralled and cannot wait to go back

Finally after about 9 miles and just under 4 hours (3:20 moving time, the rest was photos and admiring the view) I made it back to the parking lot to see the last remnants of sunlight above Spirit Lake and the blast zone

This was by far one of my favorite hikes I've done in the last few years, and I would love to revisit it, or maybe backpack the entire 30 mile Loowit loop, next year and get to spend more time with such an incredible landscape

On the hike back up the service road you'll be treated to extraordinary views of the valley around the mountain and Mount Adams

Additionally as you make your way around the middle of the blast zone, looking up you'll see a reminder that Loowit is still an active volcano, just biding her time. Steam and volcanic gas drill emits from the crater and lava dome

Here is a glimpse of Loowit Falls, which descends 200 feet and is the outflow of Crescent Glacier, which is one of the few actively growing glaciers in the world

I turned around at that point as sunset was looming, but I'd love to revisit in the spring with more daylight when this hike apparently explodes with wildflowers. Here's a special one for me, an Indian Paintbrush. My middle name is Castilleja, which is the genus of these flowers

One of the more challenging aspects of the trail is it takes you in and out of gullies and lahars in the volcanic debris field, with some short and steep descents and ascents in loose strata. Wayfinding is fairly easy, but there was one particular lahar that took some effort to find the best route

After descending the road down cross a dry river bed and jump on the Windy Trail and continue until you reach the connection with the 30 mile Loowit Trail (named for the indigenous name of the mountain), which circumambulates the mountain

From here it is about 1.5 miles to the falls, and the trail undulates over the hills of the blast zone from the 1980 eruption. Along the way there are great views of Spirit Lake and the tens of thousands of logs that were deposited there by the eruption

I hiked the Loowit Falls trail from Windy Point Viewpoint. Total distance for me was just under 9 miles round trip with about 1200 feet of elevation game. I didn't make it all the way to the falls because I got a late start and hit my turnaround time, but I saw the falls from a distance

The trail starts with 2 miles along a service road, first climbing then descending. As you hike the road you are greeted with ominous views of the mountain lurking in the background

Hiked out to Loowit Falls at Loowit (Mt St Helens) today. Just shy of 9 miles round trip of some of the most stunning landscape I've ever been lucky enough to visit. I'll share more later but I'm so tired and I gotta drive home
