Income isn’t supposed to play a role in how much housing assistance FEMA gives families. But in some North Carolina counties, the highest-income homeowners received two to three times as much money after Hurricane Helene as those with lower incomes. With @theassemblync.bsky.social

Two former Wells Fargo executives were fined $8.5M by the Biden administration for covering up the bank's infamous fake account scandal. Trump just slashed those fines to a paltry $150,000 after Wells Fargo gave $1M to his inauguration. See how this works?

I see it. I have lived it. 83 years ago, the U.S. government turned upon a group of its own citizens and residents and sent them to internment camps without due process. I was there among them. American fascism is back. It is here. It is now.

Meanwhile, the administration has quietly slashed DOGE’s so-called “savings target” from $2 trillion to just $150 billion. Because it was never about savings. It was always about control. Your data. Your life. Their weapon. We see it now for what it is.

DOGE was never about savings. It was always about surveillance. Over the weekend, we released new details—and now whistleblowers are coming forward too. What’s becoming clearer by the day: DOGE isn’t a government efficiency program. It’s a data weapon aimed at the American people.

This country is becoming unrecognizable. What we’re seeing is state-funded fear. We’ve warned people: keep filming, go live on social media so these moments are documented and shared. This wasn’t a case involving masked ICE agents—but that’s happening too.

The majority opinion literally does not mention this fact. But it does say that notice is required and “must be afforded within a reasonable time and in such a manner as will allow [people targeted for deportation] to actually seek habeas relief . . . before such removal occurs.” 8/20

Of course, a habeas remedy is meaningful only if immigrants have a chance to pursue it. The people Trump deported previously had no chance to file habeas petitions, because they were given no notice before being put on a plane to El Salvador. 7/20

Instead of a lawsuit challenging the policy, a five-justice majority held that individual targets of the policy must file habeas petitions challenging the lawfulness of their own deportation, and they must do so in the districts where they are being detained. 6/20

Instead, it ruled that the lawsuit brought by the detained immigrants was filed in the wrong jurisdiction (Washington, D.C.) when it should have been filed in Texas, where the detainees were being held.
