I honestly don't know how I would survive Slow Horses if I hadn't already read the books. The show isn't 100% faithful, but I've been prepared for most of the big plot points.

Me, four years ago, "it's cute that crop tops are coming back" Me, two years ago, "well, I can probably hide a crop top under some overalls, but I'm too old to wear them openly." Me, this summer/heat wave fall, "Crop tops are ideal for perimenopausal women."

I have been incredibly vigilant in not supporting Amazon since even before Bezos got divorced. So imagine learning my conviction has only been as strong as "well, Whole Foods is the only grocery store along my bus route".

And even when I tried to make myself feel better by noting another liberal looking guy had made the same decision, I immediately noticed he was wearing an Angie Craig shirt.

Cross country meets are fun, because you can immediately figure out which schools have good football programs. (Girls from the school dominate as a first place team. Boys are trying really hard to not be a last place team.)

Glad to see the Lynx look like the Lynx in this game so far. It was pretty clear versus the Liberty that they spent the FIBA break on defense and they just needed to dust the offensive cobwebs off their shooting

I'm finding humor in aging when I do the same things I teased my parents about when I was a teen. Today: where are the two pairs of glasses I like? My mom eventually found one of the pairs she lost when I was 16 in her flower beds. At least I haven't been using a trowel recently?

I really hope this was one of the Winona cameras.

NEW: Hackers ripped down a Flock camera above a roadway, made a near-complete copy of the data stored inside it, and shared the files with 404 Media and @wired.com, revealing in new detail how exactly Flock Safety’s cameras track the movements of both vehicles and people.

I also think this gets to the fundamental question about who the fair is for. The fair started with farm kids. I don't want a fair without them. How do we balance marketing outside of Minnesota with marketing in Minnesota.

I wrote about the influencer-fication of the Minnesota State Fair for @stribgoingout.startribune.com :) with my amazing colleague Rachel Hutton :)

It's probably partially a backlash to how much attention has been getting, and the length of the lines, but I've seen more people try to specify that most crop art "isn't really art" this year. And... Do these people go to museums?

Crop art is special because it takes all submissions. And some are amateur-- because you are displayed while still learning. But even simple pieces-- the one I made this year that was the quickest I've ever turned around a work-- could maybe be more compared to printmaking than oil painting.

We have a mentally and emotionally broken man in the Senate and there's nothing we can do to remove him. Yes, I'm talking about Fetterman. Meanwhile, we don't even know if Mitch McConnell is alive.

My sister accidentally texted about meeting near "The Circle of Birth" center at the State Fair, and from now on that's all I'm going to call it. I really dislike how much we've changed the wording of bringing new life from "labor" to miracle.

And it does a disservice to how many women are closer to death in that process then they will be doing any other activity in their lives. ...and how much trauma women are expected to hide from their families.

Reminder that we had Senator Al Franken because he paid for a hand recount. This isn't even the first time this century a candidate paid the fee.

He never paid the filing fee then sued claiming he shouldn’t have to pay the filing fee. And lost. Because that’s what Lindell does - lose all the time, claim he was cheated, sues, then loses in court. Over and over and over again since 2021.

Me, 7PM last night: this is the best part of the year, crop art has been dropped off crop art and I'm done worrying about the process for months. Me, 9:30 PM last night: Without quinoa, amaranth is now one of the only naturally red seeds, so this year I may learn how to use plants for natural dye

Oof. Typo Me, 7PM last night: this is the best part of the year, crop art has been dropped off and I'm done worrying about the process for months. Me, 9:30 PM last night: Without quinoa, amaranth is now one of the only naturally red seeds, so this year I may learn how to use plants for natural dye

I love Tyler Adams. I loved watching him play with McKennie at Leeds. I was so ready for this to be a historic year. I could not watch tonight, because I couldn't watch them lose, even if that was best for the World Cup.

In the run up to the 2020 election, I had coffee with a mentor who told me that we weren't ready for universal healthcare because people liked their doctors. I had to explain changing doctors 3 times in the previous 5 years based on insurance decisions. These talking points don't last forever.

As someone in higher ed, this is not it. Your girls could get funding without all of the lost weekends and sports fees if you just spent as much on education as you do trying to tear it down.

Gluesenkamp Perez: "At town halls, what I saw was the people who were the most upset had spent the last 12 years driving their girls to sports practice & they view their best shot of their student going to college as an athletic scholarship. So when we rush to moralize we miss some of the nuance."

I feel like the people that pushed Planter are the people that keep posting about how Harris was unliked and unqualified. And how frustrating trying to engage with politics is when you are a woman.

My campus has some questionable art that has remained on display to avoid offending a donor. How much money do you think I'd have to donate to have this on permanent display next to the football field?

The motivation to participate in the 100 mile garage sale was the bins of clothing my oldest left behind when she moved to college. But the thing I'm happiest to have sold is my Sinema dress. I had owned it about two weeks when this picture was taken and I never wore it again.

In my parenting world, the first vaccine parents pushed back against was for HPV. 10 years later, my child's acne doctor responded this way (spiel followed by relief) when we chose birth control over a months long antibiotic course will always have me link vaccine denial and American Puritanism.

when our baby was born we asked the pediatrician doing rounds about the then-new RSV vaccine, and she visibly steeled herself before launching into a pre-rehearsed spiel about the efficacy of vaccines and only relaxed when we were like, no, we’re asking because we WANT it
