OpenJDK 28 EA build 21 (jdk.java.net/28/) is out, with Adaptive Heap Sizing and faster startup for ZGC. IMO this will be huge for reducing memory usage in Java desktop apps like @intellijidea.com and CLI tools where the heap defaults to 25% of RAM. No more -Xmx roulette #jvm #java #kotlin

70 percent of the internet was vulnerable yesterday to very bad security flaws inside a coding language. Turns out, *one volunteer* is mostly responsible for maintaining that code & helping push updates. Yesterday Ondřej Surý saved the internet. So I called him up www.theatlantic.com/technology/2...

theatlantic.comThe Man Who Saved the Internet YesterdayOndřej Surý was a relatively anonymous volunteer working on PHP security. Then the internet exploded.

"An attacker with the private key of any of the compromised intermediate CAs could impersonate any website or service." 😱

Filippo Valsorda@filippo.abyssdomain.expert

🚨 Six WebPKI Intermediate CAs are compromised. This is bigger than Heartbleed, but a client-side issue. Anything that verifies certificates against public roots, like most TLS clients, is/was affected. Details, live test, patched versions and workarounds at emudhra.we-have-a-problem.com Act now.

This is huge. With AOT, AHS, and the runtime changes coming in 28, it’s going to be a stellar release. Most people don’t realize how amazing the JVM is, and it just keeps getting better - github.com/openjdk/jdk/... #java #jvm

Happy to announce that JEP 546: “Adaptive Heap Sizing for ZGC” and JEP 545: “Faster Startup and Warmup with ZGC” have both been targeted for JDK 28.

The JVM is a marvel of software engineering. AI on the JVM: quixotic ... until now. Local, fast, just one command away. qxotic.ai

Next LTS (JDK 29) is going to be a banger 🔥 Value types, AOT compilation (training runs), Adaptive heap sizing, Structured concurrency, Compact object headers. Can't wait! #jvm #jdk

Erik Österlund@eosterlund.bsky.social

If you are like me and don’t enjoy configuring JVM heap sizes (e.g. -Xms, -Xmx, -XX:SoftMaxHeapSize) then finally ”JEP 546: Adaptive Heap Sizing for ZGC” just became a candidate JEP: openjdk.org/jeps/546

"No Python runtime, no ONNX, no glue code. Every component, from tokenizers to the inference engine, built for the JVM with native image support" - Amazing work by @mukel.bsky.social #jvm #java #ai

Quixotic AI@qxotic.ai

Some would call AI on the JVM quixotic. We just shipped it. Chat, vision, embeddings & TTS on the JVM. Finally, AI in a jar. qxotic.ai

Something big might happen to the Kotlin Multiplatform Ecosystem 👀 We were never too happy about how Kotlin publishes and resolves KMP libraries. It takes up significantly more space than it has to, produces a ton of artifacts and Maven modules, and is just... complex!

Spent better part of my time last few months on this most satisfying piece of work. So many low-level things to obsess about. It was the first time in my life I looked at results, auditing why performance improved on 20+ benchmarks, but not on THIS ONE. github.com/openjdk/jdk/...

Well, #Java 26 is boring, except for the #JVM

Johannes Bechberger@mostlynerdless.de

Java 26 is here, but it's boring. Nothing really exciting. But that's a good thing, as the boring stability is what made Java successful (co-written with @lutskedev.bsky.social): mostlynerdless.de/blog/2026/03...

The Vite for Kotlin test suite fails with Kotlin 2.3.0 because... Kotlin Wasm has been optimized enough, that the generated Wasm file is so small, that Vite decides to inline it entirely, so there is no visible Wasm in the output

Nice... seems like most of the issues with the OpenAPI #Ktor compiler plugin got fixed in this release. It generates a good enough OpenAPI spec out of the box without needing the new describe DSL #kotlin #ktor #jvm

Ktor 3.4.0 is out! 🎉 The release improves stability and brings new features: 🔶 Zstd compression 🔶 OkHttp duplex streaming 🔶 Structured concurrency for the HTTP request lifecycle 🔶 OpenAPI generation from code Read the blog post for details ⬇️ https://kotl.in/n31gtm
