HUGE WIN FOR INDIGENOUS RIGHTS! ✊🏹 Brazil’s President Lula has been reelected in a dramatic comeback. The Indigenous rights movement in Brazil is celebrating this new wave of hope. 💪 The defeated far-right candidate had already openly declared himself an enemy of Indigenous peoples.

That said, we’re straight back to work. Despite Lula’s victory, there’s a lot to be done in Brazil on Indigenous rights. And with a Congress dominated by the far-right which will try to push many anti-Indigenous bills, we’re getting ready for a long struggle ahead.

We’ll keep pushing for the demarcation of Indigenous territories, especially those which are home to uncontacted Indigenous peoples. ✊ We remain steadfast, strong, and full of determination. For Indigenous peoples, for nature, and for all of humanity!

What the hell? 🤯 The French government’s decided to become the largest shareholder in French mining company Eramet that operates the world’s largest nickel mine in Indonesia. Why’s that bad? 🤔

👉 After our warnings, the Norwegian sovereign wealth fund divested from Eramet, citing “serious human rights violations against uncontacted Indigenous peoples.” The French government, however, has chosen to increase its stake. ️⁉️🤷🏻‍♀️

We're calling on the French authorities to immediately end their support of Eramet if they won’t respect the rights of the Hongana Manyawa, and to demand an end to all mining activities on their territory. The energy transition can't be used as a pretext for the destruction of an Indigenous people.

The mining concession overlaps with the territory of uncontacted Hongana Manyawa people. The mine’s operations pose a clear threat to their survival. What does the law say? Any project on Indigenous land must happen with the free, prior & informed consent of the Indigenous people living there.

Congratulations, Roy! Roy Sesana is to be awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Botswana for his lifelong commitment to defending the rights of Botswana’s Indigenous peoples. We’ve worked alongside him since the 1990s and we know he’s more than worthy of this honor.

⚠️ Urgent! Attack on the rights of uncontacted people in Peru! 🇵🇪 Uncontacted Indigenous people live in the Atacuari region of the Peruvian Amazon - a new study proves it. But key Peruvian government ministries have rejected the study and are denying that the people exist. svlint.org/PeruActB

Rejecting the study's findings automatically blocks the creation of a reserve to protect them. Indigenous organization AIDESEP has said there’s no justification to reject the study. If this isn’t a direct attack on the rights of uncontacted peoples, we don’t know what is.

svlint.orgPeru's Uncontacted Tribes can't wait!Email the Peruvian government demanding uncontacted tribes' territories are permanently protected and call for the immediate expulsion of extractive industries from their territories.

The transformation of Great Nicobar Island will completely destroy their island home. 🚨🌳 The mega-project will include a huge port, a military base, an industrial park, shopping malls, theme parks, a casino, and a city the size of Las Vegas. It’s being marketed as the ‘Hong Kong of India.’

The Science Museum gets £4 million from Adani, helping to greenwash their reputation. It shouldn’t be taking money from a company that could be involved in the destruction of the Shompen people and their island. ✊ Stand in support of the Shompen and protest Adani at the London Science Museum.

Adani is a powerful Indian conglomerate that wants to develop a mega-port on Great Nicobar Island in the Indian Ocean. The port is an integral part of the Indian government’s massive development project that could wipe out the uncontacted Indigenous Shompen people who call the island their home.

👀 Did you know that carbon credit projects are a growing threat to Indigenous peoples and their lands? Dorothy Cheruto from the Ogiek people in Kenya spoke at the #OurLandOurNature gathering in Nairobi, the first global Indigenous gathering to #DecolonizeConservation.

Carbon offset schemes were one of the main topics at the gathering. While carbon credits may sound like an easy way to fight climate change, for Indigenous peoples, these “solutions” are devastating. Carbon credits are already forcing many of them off their lands across the globe.

To fight these false solutions (and fortress conservation in general) Dorothy and 60 Indigenous participants published a joint declaration. It sets out their demands for conservation that respects Indigenous peoples’ rights. It's a must-read. Will you take a look? 👉 svlint.org/nairobi-declaration

While he was in power, Bolsonaro didn’t demarcate a single Indigenous territory, and he encouraged the theft of Indigenous territories and the destruction of the Amazon rainforest. His son Flávio’s already promised to follow in his footsteps.

Many Brazilians have already sided with either Lula or Bolsonaro. Others are still struggling to decide. But no matter what, we must uphold democracy and the guarantee of human rights — including the rights of Indigenous peoples.

Over 60 Indigenous representatives demanded that their ancestral lands be returned. Their declaration puts a blunt ultimatum to those of the conservation industry, including WWF, The WCS, African Parks, UNESCO and others. Will you stand with them? Read the declaration: svlint.org/nairobi-decl...

Good news for the uncontacted Piripkura people in Brazil! A Brazilian Court ordered that anyone in the Piripkura territory illegally should be removed. It’s great news, because invaders are one of the biggest threats to the uncontacted people.

Once the intruders are removed, the uncontacted Piripkura people will at least have the territory to themselves, lessening one of the greatest threats to their survival. 👉 Learn more about the Piripkura and other uncontacted Indigenous peoples at uncontactedpeoples.org
