every day I want to bleet some variation on "i've been working so hard validate meeeeeee" but I have been okay lmao. 2/3s of the batch of remaining brainchild chapter 4 pages have been completely colored!! we're looking at mid-november for me to start updating the site again

my general rule of thumb for coloring pages with allison's (non-corporeal) MutantVision is mutant parts can cast shadows on themselves/their person, but not exterior physical objects. people cast human-shaped ground shadows. nosi obeys "lighting conditions" but has no cast shadow whatsoever.

I can't really share why yet (although Soon). and it's probably not exactly...evident...at this point in the comic...haha. but nosilla is the hero of brainchild. she has always been intended to be. and I can't wait to make everyone say "holy shit she is really That Bitch"

#oldtober rediscovered these color keys i made in college during what i consider the "early modern era" of Brainchild development, hah...it's interesting to look at these again and try to remember the setpieces and scenes i had in mind at the time. the parking structure is still there :^)

(in my mind, there are two distinct brainchild "eras"--the "premodern period" from high school, when I came up with the main cast but the central conceit was VERY different, and the "modern period" starting in the latter half of college when I redrafted everything into basically what it is today)

that underground bunker -looking place and the big screens are holdovers from the Old Draft I eventually axed, in which the core conspiracy was a lot more cartoon supervillain-y. now it's much more entrenched in plain sight in the mundanity of our militarized technofeudalist USA. as most evil is.

it's nice when anything i draw gains some amount of organic viral interest but it just kinda reaffirms my lack of interest in making easily digestible context-less solo illustrations for the social media age. since the things that blow up in that way tend to be the most divorced from the larger "Me"
