We already have flying cars. They're called helicopters. They're really expensive and there are good reasons you have to have a pilot license and work with air traffic control to fly them. Putting jets on a sedan is not going to result in a better vehicle or transportation experience in any way.

From the earliest days of technopolitics, the role of technology in resisting authoritarianism was unclear. On the one hand, there's the indisputable fact that modern cryptography, properly implemented, can deliver a degree of privacy that is proof against all technological attacks. 1/

LLMs do not understand, will not understand, and cannot ever understand information. It's a glorified search engine combined with auto-compete, and you should treat it as such. No matter how much LLM companies try to tell you their machines can think or reason, they cannot and will not. 12/12

What can history teach us about what happens when a populist strongman with an idiosyncratic taste for low interest rates undermines central bank independence?

/3 I am no longer inclined to spend time tinkering with the machinery of bigotry. It would be trivially easy to explain under a rules-based system how SCOTUS could come out one way on race in admissions and another in race in detentions. But it's still not worth the effort or the implied respect.

You may be one of today's lucky ten thousand if you've never heard of this yet. It's phenomenal scientific story telling, about the cumulative, and often unintentional way that scientific progress gets made and how interconnected our modern world has become.

My son introduced me to this BBC series from 1978 called Connections, about how interconnected events led to the development of technology and the making of the modern world. It’s absolutely delightful and if you’ve never seen it, you’re in for a treat

An exposure analysis would say hey people having VLC is a source of vulnerability because the parsers are not exactly strong and easy to exploit. And I would come back and tell them people are literally directly installing malware on their computers. They run the EXE. Is that good enough for you?

You are up to date.
