For Esquire, I'm looking to chat with people in and out of book publishing about the recent high-profile book announcements from politicians like Kamala Harris, Joe Biden, John Fetterman, Gavin Newsom, etc. Have thoughts? DM me or email: vershbowiswriting@gmail.com

A friend who wants Brad Lander to win told me she isn't ranking Zohran even though she prefers him to Cuomo. I wrote back explaining why it still makes sense for her to rank Zohran, and I wanted to share it here for any other anti-Cuomo folks who aren't otherwise inclined to rank Mamdani.

My NYC mayoral election ranking: 1. Zohran Mamdani 2. Brad Lander 3. Adrienne Adams 4. Zellnor Myrie 5. Michael Blake I encourage everyone to put Zohran/Brad or Brad/Zohran up top for the best (and only) chance of defeating Cuomo.

The "he's only good at making videos" comments about Zohran's campaign ring of, "the intern made that viral post" discourse and proves a fundamental misunderstanding of how valuable effective digital communication is in 2025, assuming anyone good at it is otherwise inexperienced.

NYC progressives need to start pushing the narrative that not ranking Zohran anywhere on your ballot is the equivalent of handing the election to Cuomo, ala voting for Jill Stein in 2016/2024. He doesn't have to be your #1 choice- this is about ranked choice strategy.

Good morning, NYC. We have some very exciting news to share.

"Yes, Cuomo is awful, but I have some policy differences with the progressives, so this is hard." This is not hard. What you do is, you set aside your precious little checklist, and YOU DON'T VOTE FOR THE AWFUL PERSON.
