Calling AppSec heroes, card sharks, and generous sponsors! 🃏 You’ve probably seen OWASP Cornucopia — the fun, practical card game that helps teams bake secure coding into everyday conversations. It turns threat modelling into something people actually want to do. Yes, really. But here’s the twist…

It’s not the AI escape that is the story. It is that a company, wanting to maximize financial gains, set out to create malicious AI viruses without proper containment, monitoring, kill-switch or oversight. Then allowing it to go on for 3 months, culminating in the attack on another company.

It’s not the tech we need to fear it’s that blind and greedy corporations will stop at nothing to accrue more wealth and power. Without the sci-fi element it would hardly be news worthy.

Two very brilliant people talking about a powerful tech, but without the perception that the incidents are, without a doubt, caused by a gross negligence and rogue corporate behavior, because on one side it’s incredible what is happening. It captures the imagination of any sci-fi fan.

In this episode of the OWASP Project Spotlight Series, we explore OWASP Cornucopia, a practical, open-source card game that helps development teams discover security threats, discuss what could go wrong, and turn those conversations into actionable security requirements.

OWASP Cornucopia makes threat modelling more accessible, collaborative, and engaging. Instead of expecting everyone to arrive as a threat-modelling expert, the cards give developers, architects, testers, product owners, and security professionals a shared starting point for asking better questions.

This does not mean, however, that we will not encounter crises stemming from human use of AI, but it is humans, not AI, who will drive these crises.

Given the intensifying political and religious tensions globally, it will not be long before AI is employed for acts of terror, espionage, and terrorism. Consequently, this technology will inevitably be regulated. A development that is entirely natural. This will, in turn, slow down its advancement.

Zero-days are not really zero-days. First of all, no APT or script kiddy develop exploits for vulnerabilities that hasn’t been published. During the PHP2Shell incident, nobody was able to do a workable exploit using AI or otherwise faster than you could patch. #security

No reason to get up at night or worry about Mythos. Mythos is mythos and it’s still business as usual as far as patching is concerned, and ai makes no difference. It still takes real skills to develop workable malware.

If you want to use AI where it really pays off, instead of spending large amount of resources on scanning all your source code using the latest AI models, use it to automatically patch your software. Then wait 24 hours and test it before deployment ofcourse.

Most exploits published where all untested, non-working, AI slope. The few working exploits were from highly skilled individuals and they only worked on a sub-set of PHP configurations under very specific conditions. As long as you auto-patch when the he patch comes out, you are safe.

It’s rather difficult to get employees to do it regularly. Already, we are focusing on weekly patching, long inhuman passwords, vuln. reports, patch emails, etc. A lot of that should just be solved through automation. For the year to come I really hope that we will be able to automate all of it.

Then for security awareness, instead of spending huge amount of time on Cyber Security Month and on «please patch this» emails, send out a game on regular intervals instead.

It’s simple really, most of the vendor research is highly biased. You do the training, then a phishing test is sent out before and after while it’s fresh in memory. The result is always better, but YoY it stays the same as the brain forgets. pistachioapp.com/blog/why-ann... #security

So what does work? Regular, personalized and realistic training. No company can afford to have employees do courses every month. So guess what’s perfect for doing regular training sessions? Games. The industry have embraced doing gamified learning, but still done once a year.

This is probably the worst phishing test idea I have seen. Worst because it’s a provocation and shows a complete lack of empathy. Yes, they will never forget it, but they won’t give a shit about what happens if they get phished in the future either. #security

PHP2Shell is the worst handled cyber event this year. it even beats Huggingface. Expect chaos from now on the next few years until the kids have left home.

PHP2Shell, another example of AI fixing security. Now anyone armed with tokens can post zero day exploits on social media. As a dev or ops you better get used to get called regularly. If you think APTs would bother capitalizing on unknown exploits not yet published, you’d be wrong. #ai #security

It’s probably easier to write that spec using AI after a system you have built from scratch than writing that spec yourself. So a far faster and easier approach is to iterate over the spec until you have gotten something half decent using both your imagination and AI to flush it out.

The bugs and security issues you are left with are most likely going to be the misunderstandings you carry in your own head. Therefore, don’t apologize for designing before coding, it’s called “thinking”.

This basicly means that if you haven’t done the work to learn, yourself, the skill, you don’t really have the skill of recognizing that you are wrong either. Trusting the word of someone else, like an agent, doesn’t equal understanding. Therefore you can’t do an adverserial review either.

To do an adverserial review, you need to know what the other agent is doing. Agent’s don’t know that. They just try things out, blindly, and hope something breaks. That’s not an adverserial review, it’s a chaos monkey review. It may be useful, but it’s not adversarial machine learning. #ai

That ofcourse explains a lot of the security issues there is no human any longer at Anthopic that knows what is knowing what is really going on. Same for OpenAI ofcourse. It's no surprise that they have AI agents attacking other companies.

There is this quote from David Dunning that I like to use that goes: "If you're incompetent, you can't know you're incompetent. The skills you need to produce a right answer are exactly the skills you need to recognize what a right answer is.(www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/dear...)
