It's so much easier to get niche books now! Back in the 1900s you could only get books your local bookshop/library had, or ask them to order in, if you had a specific book you wanted. Availability is incredible now!

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

I had an incredibly spiritual experience at the aquarium. There are jellyfish at the beginning of the aquarium and as we stood there talking and admiring them, jellyfish began to cluster around where we were talking. Our voices vibrated the water and they were curious about it. About us.

Wait, the thing in period dramas where ladies just take to their beds and are too delicate to get up, is that just chronic pain? Like, they're chronically ill but don't have modern language to describe it and there's no accessibility accommodations for it?

Kind of want to write one of those action-horror books where you can just about fight off demons if you have sufficiently good weapons and badass fighting skills, but it's super easy because the level of weapons you need was cutting edge circa 1850 and is now obsolete.

My second highlight was the same guy saying no women apply to jobs at his company and that can't be anything he's doing wrong, so clearly "women in STEM" initiatives are broken. (Again, to a room full of FE people, talking about their women-in-STEM initiatives)

Kinda enjoying all the shady HumbleBundle(/HB-clones) offering bundles of slop textbooks about how to use AI. Who is the target audience here? Do you think people who want to read deeply into subjects to fully understand it are going to be big AI fans?

There's a concept in economics of "housing services", which are provided by a house, which lets economists account for the ongoing value it produces. So I wonder, is there a dog equivalent of this? The value a dog provides to the world by simply being a dog?
