"there should be a skip button" but there's /purpose/ to the decision! there's strategy that emerges from being forced to use all your items! it's not an objective decision! i didnt forget to add it! augh!

this person gets it, at least. totally valid to not agree with the decision. i admit that progressing turns is a chore, but i still think being forced to use your refreshed items is more interesting and consequential to the strategy

computor how do i strengthen my ego against comments on my video games maybe making this alt account was a bad idea because i have an even stronger urge to complain about them publicly

i am very pleased with my ludum dare game this time around. some adjustments are needed but the concept holds up very well. and has some of the better character design work I've been able to do

i saw the first three comments while finishing up, and one of them already set off alarms in my head of being an ai generated response. even if it isn't, the fact that I'm stressing over it is so draining, i don't want to see this infecting one of the few things i really look forward to

its maybe one of the worst feelings in the world. to have something you structured most your life around just deteriorate like this.

i am sorta thinking I'm just not going to look at any of the comments though. a single ai ld entry last time was enough to set me off, seeing multiple instances before i even begin rating games has made me lose almost all interest in engaging with the event.

i get a lot of stupid ideas all the time that i would be close to considering if i was more impulsive one idea i keep coming back to is to make a totally normal and competent game and give it a complete nonsense unrelated name, for no reason other than for my own amusement.

it'd be like if i released Windowkill, exact same game but i named it Polar Bear Summer Vacation. i consider this every time I'm coming up with a title during ludum dare, if this happens in a week you know why

something very annoying has been happening for like a year by now for whatever reason, cloudflare has flagged my network IP as malicious, leading me to be either blocked or heavily checked on basically every website i visit. its slowly been getting worse, now im blocked by all of stack exchange

i initially thought itchio just started being super strict with its security verification, and only when i took a trip did i realize i never got the verification check, whereas at home i get it on every new request. no idea why. neither my housemate nor i do anything weird with the network.

one thing you learn from making a lot of things is that the nitty gritty details, the millions of tiny invisible decisions, ARE the art. The "higher level ideas" are not nearly as important or interesting

"AI lets you focus on the higher level ideas!!" because we all grew up dreaming of becoming managers and CEOs we all know the real artists at the very highest level are the shareholders, famously full of amazing ideas

my efforts have been fruitless, the tool is sprawling and obfuscated, and since it's all served by a network there's no actual archived copies of the editor's files maybe someone smarter than me could figure it out, but i really don't think there's anyone who cares more about this than i do

i dont want this account to be nonstop ai depression venting but id be lying if i said it didnt consume a significant chunk of my mind day to day. i hate seeing it i hate thinking about it i hate that its seeping into every tool and application ive been using for years to otherwise do what i love.

i was actually one of the first beta testers, back before figma was even released. i genuinely believe its vector editing workflow and capabilities are second to none, and have been since the start. (and well, that "and have been" is part of what makes this depressing)

several of times throughout the years I've poked around with the (far too hopeful) idea of creating a local snapshot copy of figma, so that i could keep using its design tools without feeling the crushing depression of interfacing around all the ai hell bullshit floating around me as i work

i have no idea what this is or why its here, it only appears in recent versions it seems to me like a big chunk of llm nonsense output. and whether intentional or not, is very relevant to the reason i was digging around here in the first place for years ive been a proponent of figma's design tools,

I did this thing and never posted it but felt like talking about it many of these represent a whole group or era of games in my life, e.g. fantastic contraption represents many classic flash games I grew up with, that one just being a primary example in my memory (for good reason)

endlessly about it if given the chance. it is by far the strongest example of a game influential to me as a game developer

thanks for coming to my ted talk. im sure there's a game or two ive forgotten about that would've gone on this list otherwise, but the current list feels like a very good representation of my influences

ESA and SSR are standout examples when i ask myself what my favorite games are. maybe theyve been surpassed over time, but they both embody unforgetable experiences in my life that few games have gotten close to. i love secrets and i love puzzles, at the very least these each cover those categories

cinco paus is maybe the whole reason i decided to talk about this list in the first place. it feels like the perfect video game for me. it has completely enraptured my mind ever since i first dug into it. im not even sure where i would begin describing what i like so much about it, but i could talk

like many others I've seen sharing this list, cave story was the first time I went "oh you can just make games?" one of the strongest catalysts for me pursuing gamedev. spelunky is similar, I probably spent more time in the computer lab at school playing this than actually studying

frog fractions is an embodiment of a particular characteristic of some games that you'll undoubtedly hear me ramble about if i keep up this account. its sort of become an obsessive trait of my game design tendencies. im not sure frog fractions specifically inspired this, but it's a great example

same with moneyseize, I almost couldn't pick a maddy thorson game but for whatever reason this one always sticks out in my mind when I think back to this time. give up robot is a close second. again, this represents a whole group of games like robot wants kitty, focus, achievement unlocked, etc.

rain world is maybe the least /influential/ to me on this list, but its far from the bottom of games that I think about constantly; endlessly inspiring, no other game has left me gawking at the screen while playing as much as this. and perhaps thats why, I can't imagine making something close to it

im generally apprehensive about talking to people, and by extension talking anywhere on the internet. on top of that, i care (too much) about only posting important relevant stuff on my main accounts. so i end up just not posting ever.

despite this, i occasionally get enough of an urge to talk about myself or whatever to overcome these feelings. anyway idk if i'll share this account around much but for now it'll be a place to put random stuff im too hesitant to post otherwise

You are up to date.
