The long-serving strongman leader of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, has conceded defeat in an election that pitted him and his right-wing party against a diverse student-led opposition movement that spent two years protesting his government.
People don't vote to punish. That's just not a thing in the head of anyone but people making excuses.
The Dems have overseen decades of policies that saw workers increasingly abandoned for the PMC who were allowed to take over the remaining institutions.
Dems were either complicit or incompetent
Humanity is a thing you have, and something you do, and something you can lose. Too many nominally "good" people act like it is bestowed on them by their vague virtue
I have a belief: humanity is a verb, not a noun. It’s something you *do*
And I firmly believe that it’s something people can do again, after they’ve chosen or been forced to stop.
I’ve seen enough polls about who to run in ‘28 - it’s time to resurrect FDR for his fifth term
One quantillion liberty ships to Ukraine, billions of dollars to furry artists for public works, two trillion antitrust laws
If you're in touch with Democratic candidates, let them know you want retribution. No more healing, no more looking forward. MAGA wasn't sufficiently punished so they got bolder. Treat them like russians because they think the same way.
This is so blatantly authoritarian, even by Trump II standards, that I'm shocked it's not being treated as the five alarm fire that it is for the future of American democracy.
Like at what point will the straw finally break the camel's back of the American public.
The federal investigation into Rep. Ilhan Omar aims to build a case to strip her of her U.S. citizenship and ultimately deport her, according to U.S. officials and others familiar with the probe on.wsj.com/4zBOcZ9
some deranged lunatic is going to storm an elementary school with an ar15 looking for the schools surgical center and the media is going to pretend we have no idea where they got that idea from
Trump: "They want to cut your children. It's unbelievable what they do. Your son leaves as Jimmy and comes home in three days as Janet, and they don't even ask you. They can take your child out of school and do whatever the hell they want. Minnesota is one of those states."
After years of warnings that the war in Ukraine could spiral into a full-on Russia-Europe conflagration, the conflict has reached a point where this is a real possibliity.
It’s a prospect that threatens not just European lives but the entire globe.
okay but why am I crying about a video about a player whose heroics occurred before I was born, who weathered it all and whom the baseball gods seemingly despised and yet was still one of the best pitchers to ever do it. John Bois, the writer that you are.
John Bois is just genuinely one of the best writers active these days. If last year you told me I would cry at several videos about baseball, a game I did not yet appreciate at that time, I wouldn't believe you.

Should make one wonder why you never see the CEOs of the big primes (Raytheon, Boeing, Lockheed, NG, GD, L3Harris) talking like this but all the new startup CEOs are straight up fascists and repeatedly remind you of this fact on live.
To "revel in the death of those who truly deserve it...is normal, good, and aligned with our natural and national order," Anduril co-founder Palmer Luckey wrote on X.
Ngl being told 8 months straight “we decided to go with a more qualified candidate” is one of the most soulcrushing experiences I’ve ever had the misfortune of living through
I graduated Cum Laude from my MA, I worked on an election campaign, I worked for an archive, what more do I need to do lol
Saying he'd be cool with Iran nuking my home city is pretty bad but not quite as bad as when Hillary said some trump supporters were deplorable so I can see why the media turned the latter into a major scandal and not the former
really kinda sucks that, across the globe, we don’t have majorities of voters who think far right authoritarianism is bad
If I had to sum it up it seems like
40% of voters are anti authoritarian
40% of voters are pro authoritarian
20% of voters just want cheap burgers

We talk a lot about Twitter being the antisemitism app these days, but we really should also be including Instagram in that conversation. I saw a clip the Dutch royals posted of visiting one of the oldest active synagogues in the Netherlands, and the comments were filled with heaps of antisemitism.
Clearly, all of social media has just given up on actually policing hate speech, and the EU should really start to crack down on how lax social media has become on policing hate speech.
no reddit, im not giving you a copy of my ID or a selfie so you can age certify my 9 year old account
genuinely insane how out of hand age verification has gotten, social media needs to learn to bugger off with this crap

It's worth saying that the actual definition of women being insisted upon by these people in relation to, for example, Caster Semenya or Imane Khelif is one that would have been completely unintelligible to the vast majority of people throughout history.
Saudi Arabia is in big trouble, with their oil industry under attack from multiple directions.
The Saudis spent years bribing Trump and Kushner. At first, it seemed like a good investment. But the Iran war screwed them, now they really need help, and the US can't/won't.
Me, in @foreignpolicy.com:
ah great my shitty food service job isn't paying me until october because of bureaucratic, even though i was verbally told id be paid today, so now i have to take another hit or risk going into the red, at some point all of the shit that's happening to me this year is just straight up cruel
i think it is worth noting that one of the first actual elected democrats to prominently call for underbussing trans people, seth moulton, just got crushed in his primary 65-35
i also want to stress the distance between labour & the democrats, the two parties are not the same (& it's very important that the dems do not go down that path)
